"if you haven't driven it before, it's new to you!"

anywho: the Slowtege has been getting tired after several seasons' worth of competitions, and i need 'er to stay in good shape at least thru the end of school. i picked this up for $200. as it sits, it's ~2140lbs, 108hp (riiight!), 130,000 original miles.

maybe a civic-beater in the (very) rough? it's a pistol to drive, though- not much under 5000rpm, then pulls strong and SMOOTH through 7500. and loud.

yes, that's Bondo on the fenders. no, the hood is not original...that's pure NJSYDM (New Jersey Salvage Yard Domestic Market). just wanted to share and celebrate passage of NJ inspection. i'm so proud.

it needs a bit of work (front wheel bearings, radiator, water pump), but the engine itself is solid. the FWD 'Rolla autocross community is very small, however...most corolla people are all "d0rifto, y0!"

i got spoiled being on here.

that car is tight, FWD right?

yep. it's in a weird kind of post-AE86/pre-AE92 time. they only made them in '87-'88.

and b/c this is an autoX thread :) -

wow good deal. What are your plans for it after fixing all the necessary stuff? I see the SCCA sticker on the hood there already.

i've been running through some calcs, and i think i'm going to start w/ 450f and 250r springs. those should give me wheel rates in the ballpark.

15x7 wheels and 205 Falkens
Koni Sports (maybe eventually shortened Advance Designs)
Whiteline adjustable rear sway bar (20-22mm...maybe eventually a larger custom one)
?? front sway bar (TRD? Whiteline?)
Poly suspension bushings
Hawk HP+ (front) and HPS (rear) pads - already on the car...awesome!
headers and shortened exhaust (in front of the passenger rear wheel)
homemade intake - the intake is already routed into the wheelwell, but the cutout hole is a bit small.
seats
better (thicker and grippier) steering wheel
lightweight battery
remove A/C (doesn't work anyway)
remove power steering(??) - not sure about this one.
paint?
replace the bondo'd fenders w/ rolled non-rusty ones?

i think i can get the car into the 1900s w/out much trouble. one of the cool things is the factory strut tower bar- BEEFY and tied from each tower into the firewall on top (see below), and also on the bottom:

My wife blew her 89 tercel up. Spun a bearing. I finished it off in a grand cloud of smoke, slick of oil, and a big hole in the block...190,000 miles..

Nice car...
