2003 SPICY MSP
I got my MSP finally.......... (dance)
It's a ORANGE one of course, I wouldn't have it any other way.
I am still trying to learn to drive it, cause when I got it on WED, it was only the third time in my life to use a manual transmission, so if anyone has any pointers, that would be greatly appreciated. I will someday when its not raining have a photoshoot, when the car is clean. ORANGE, 27000 miles, stock.............I'll have to celebrate (drinks) .

Awesome, what part of d town you from hit us up in the tx section, We are very active and have a club called DFWProteges. Lots of Speeds, MP3, and p5's

thats awesome man, glad to hear you are so excited! I still Love my MSP, after all this wonderful time with her.

Congratulations.

For learning to drive stick, I would say just try to pay attention to your revs in each gear, knowing where the revs will go when moving into antoher gear is good. Being able to rev-match will increase the life of your transmission, and make riding in the car a very smooth experience. Try not to ride the clutch too much, like having it halfway depressed while accelerating, or trying to keep the car in position on a hill at a stoplight using the clutch(just use your damn brakes), since that'l only kill it faster. Most of all, just practice man.

Shortly after I got my car, I had some friends comment on how smoothly my car rode, I know they weren't talking about the suspension, cause this thing is pretty bumpy for my tastes, so I took it as a compliment to my driving style, smooth acceleration and deceleration. :D

Congrats on the new car, spicy orange is the epitome of the msp.

My only sugestion towards driving is drive it like ya stole it. No really, just watch the 1-2 shift, its a pain, I find shifting out of 1st at 2000rpm is smooth when your just cruising.

Enjoy your new car

I work in Carrollton, live in North Dallas, and I go to Arlington on the weekends. Yea, me and my uncle were thinking about going to the TEXAS meet, cause he has a black 5 also.............

Congratulations, I myself will be getting a Laser blue MSP in like 2 weeks. And since it's yuor third time driving a stick, dont try to shift really fast cause you will only end up grinding your gears, with time speed comes too. Good luck on buying a great car.

Oh, I almost forgot.

If after a while you feel you're still not getting the hang of it: It's because you're granny shifting, not double clutching like you should be. (rlaugh)

You should come. We're also doing a dyno day at the meet. If you want to dyno your car to get some baseline runs in before installing any mods, this would be a good time. Current price is around $35-40 but will go down if we have more people sign up. JDM Sam has a thread about it in the Texas section.

There's is also a weekly meet shaping up in Arlignton on Monday nights. Check the DFW meets thread on Monday for time and directions.

I'll give you a wave if I see you around town. I live just north of Downtown so I'm sure we'll run into each other every once and a while. I'll be in the orange msp with the FMIC and matching tint (2thumbs)

I hope your kidding. If you shift at 2000 rpm's you would be lugging the motor horrible. Shift it at 3000 rpm's when slowly accelerating and crank it up if driving hard. You'll do more damage driving hard at low RPM's than if you've got it running more RPM's in a lower gear. Don't be afraid to downshift ( low-RPM's+boost=BOOM)

^^ he said shift there when cruising, not when driving hard. 2000-2500 RPMs is where I shift out of first too when driving slowly.

and bigcc63: my biggest problem when learing how to drive stick was first gear. Then I remembered I didn't HAVE to let go of the clutch in first. By slipping the clutch when starting from a stop, for the first week or so I was learning, I got the takeoff down pretty easily.

Another tip, when on an incline at a stoplight, you can set your parking break, then use your feet just on the clutch and gas. Once you feel the gear start to engage you can let off the parking brake and you go straight. No rolling back downhill. Again, only something you may need to do for the first week or so.
