hey
just got an ebay CAI (picture 1), opened the box and now i have a few questions (want to make sure im not getting the shaft)
first, i did a how-to search for CAI install, and the only one i found has a broken link. so here are my questions.

1) what is the part in picture 2 about? im sure it'll become obvious, but a heads up would help.

2) inside of the pipe with the hole for the temp sensor has a grey resedue, probably just oxidation of the metal. do i have to clean these pipes out before install? dont want to suck anything into the engin.

3) and this may be dumb, but how do i get the filter on the end of the CAI when its in the fender well?

as usual, thanks to everyone for the help.

1) you will notice on your CAI the part that goes into the fender, right before it goes in it should have a fork looking piece. that rubber stopper sits between the bottom of the fork piece and the fender to keep it from hitting.

2) i wouldnt worry about cleaning the pipes unless they are really filthy.

3) you have two choices. you can do it the long way and take your front bumper off OR you can turn your wheel all the way, and use the screw/pop tabs in the fenderwell near the wheel and pull away the plastic. this will give you access to the bottom of the CAI.

edit: matthew beat me to it

1) is the vibra-mount for the cai. in pic 1, the right piece has a metal tab sticking out. the mount bolts onto the car.

2) i'd wipe it down, that's what i did when i installed mine.

3) there's screws on the fender lining that you'll have to undo, three right by the tire and 3 facing the ground. pull that plastic and you can put the filter on.

hope this helps. and good luck with the install.

here is a pic of my old Injen so you can see the rubber stopper and how i moved the resevoir...

second pic is of general way the CAI shoudl look.

third is where you can see the fenderwell, and see what it looks like without the bumper, and also you can see how you could pull the plastic back to reach the location as well.

DAMMIT the forum is being gay, give me your email ill send you the pics. it just hangs when trying to upload.

trying this bullshti again

thanks guys
very helpful, exactily what i was looking for. i know this forum gets alot of cai/sri questions, so i appreciate it.
im doing the install on friday or saturday (weather permitting) along with a badge replacment. will post pics.

one other thing, to move the coolent reservoir looks like its just a few screws and move it down the bracket. this true?

forgot, if the unit i was asking about is the "vibri-mount" then whats with the two twisted L brackets in the top left?

I have this exact intake..

You unscrew it.. and flip the bracket around.. so it sits in the big empty space over the tranny. I can get pics for you if you like..
