because if you **** it up your going to have to buy new ones anyway, i didn't want to take a chance in ******* them up somehow. I opted to spend the money and do it right the first time. But if you can do it yourself more power to you.
I've *never* taken a headlight off of a car, much less apart before.. All it takes is time and patience. The hardest part is taking the bumper cover off which you have to do anyway, regardless of if you buy the headlights or do it yourself.

a) Remove lights from car and then remove all parts from headlights.
b) Heat lights in oven at 300-350 for 5-10 minutes.
c) Pull apart and keep the sealant somewhat cleaned up.
d) Take insert out.
e) Put back together and push it closed as much as you can with the cooled off sealant. Also clean up any sealant that's not where it's supposed to be.
f) Heat lights again for 5-10 minutes until sealant is warm, pull out, force closed again as hard as you can.
g) Reheat if wanted to make sure you've closed the lamp.
h) Reinstall.

bringing the topic back:

after you took out the amber reflector from the headlights, is there any brighter/better orange bulbs I can put in that you guys would recommend?

also, if we take off that amber reflector and paint the silver trim around it in black, would it affect the light output? since the reflector helps the bulbs to reflects lights right?

I want to black out my headlights and don't want that amber piece in the way, but still want it to light up orange though.

its gonna be tacky with just a bulb there (stock, procarparts.com one looks ok)

My friend got me these bulbs that are from a Porsche that are clear when not lit and orange when they are. I have them in the inside turning signal as well. The inside ones near te grill are really bright at night the ones in the corners are like orange christmas lights but they still look good. Here is a day time picture with the bulbs. In the first one my car is the one to the upper left and the second one may have too much glare to see.

thanks. I'll pm him. do you have a close up pic that shows the corner of the headlights? and one which the bulbs lights up?

i have a question that someone who has taken apart the assembly might know...

that silver piece behind the orange reflector, is it necessary? ie. does it make a difference in the output of the light, or can it be painted/removed? i think that is was looks tackiest...that little hole....

when you remove the orange reflector, and if your headlamps aren't chrome, there will be that little chrome reflector there. it's not a seperate piece of metal/plastic. It's just unpainted plastic chrome and you can paint it

It's not too bad, I've grown to like it. Like I said, it's kind of like a Christmas tree light in there at night but during the day it looks nice.

Also, legally you need to have *some* reflector on the outside-most amber light. Since you're removing the main reflector, the chrome is acting as one. Paint it and it may end up being a fix it ticket depending on where you live. Check your local laws.

Very True, take the advice and check your laws, you may have a nice free just time taking mod, but you don't want to put it all back to normal and have a dead inspection sticker.
