What is it?

This could have gone in any 3rd gen protege section, but I decided to stick it here.

I have my bumper off right now and on both the passenger and driver sides there are these little white plastic boxes with a grip of wires coming out of them. They appear to terminate there and are bolted to the car.

I moved them slightly when installing my HID ballsts, just wondering what they are? See attachment with said little box circled and an arrow pointing to where it was.

a grounding point?
That's what I thought it was, but I just want to be sure. There is one on each side, driver and passenger in the exact same spot.

Its a device that lets mazda know if you modded your ride! Now your on their list!

Naw j/k..

It looks exactly like the grounding block point as you both said.. just wrapped... but it could aslo be used for positive as well no? I mean if that is what it was intended for in the first place.
Anyone have the electrical guideline for our ride? would it be in there?

if a wire is bolted to the chassis of the car it is a ground, grounds are normaly negative, unless you drive a Crosley, but none of you know what a Crosley is

yes that is a ground point

yup, I was pretty sure it was a ground point (there is a similar grounding block at the top of the bay by the battery) But with airbags and what not, you can't be too careful, just wanted to be sure it wasn't a sensor of some kind. ;) I did read the shop manual and didn't find any mention of this piece after quickly checking out things so better safe than sorry.

Those are grounding points. And yes they are bad as hell. Thats why our cars shock the hell outa us in the winter time.

Might it also be why our headlights dim CONSTANTLY even with every power accessory turned off?
