Secure radio install in a P5....How?? *With Pics*

I recently had a couple $1000 dollars worth of amps and speakers stolen out of my P5, but they didn't take my Alpine HU.....thank god!!! I pulled it after everything was stolen and put the stocker in. Now I'm ready to go back to the aftermarket.

After that little rambling how can I install the HU so its real hard to steal. I realize nothing is impossible I just want to make it difficult if it happens again.

BTW: I have the Scothse(sp?) kit with the pocket.

Thanks in advance!!

I have a Scoshe and it fit right in and just "snapped" in there with no problems whatsoever. I didn't have to secure it in the back or anything and it still works like a charm. There is so much junk behind the radio that it just slides right in without "falling" in to the dash. I had a problem with the old Metra kit which is just a pocket that goes in there, but with the scosche, it worked out beautifully! (nana)

If you really wanted to secure a deck in there good, pull the surround (it involves disconnecting a cable on the pass and driver's side) ALso take off the glove box and possibly the center consol,e this will give you enough access that you could likely get a bracket bolted to the back somehow. Problem with this being that if someone's trying to pull your deck and runs into this kind of problem they're likely gonna just start ripping and tearing at things.

^^^very true, but most people are in a big hurry when they try to steal s***. so if it doesnt come after a couple tugs, theyll probably leave it. but anyways, most hu's come with a little metal bracket, like poseur said, that goes on the back side of the radio and bolts to a metal piece in the dash. i tried taking one of those out of my moms car that i put in about 4 or 5 years ago, and had a hell of a time. it took me a good 30min just to get the deck out. so thats your best bet with that.
for your subs and whatnot, just make sure they are bolted down, not just tossed in there. for mine, i take my subs out of the box. then put the box in the car and put a bolt right thru the bottom and into the trunk. then install your speakers. that way if they want it, theyll have to take out every screw. but bottom line really, if someone wants your s*** bad enough, theyre going to find a way to get it. but at least if you install it right theyll have to work for it. but another good theft deterent is stealth. if they look in and see a stock deck, they probably wouldnt even give it a second thought. theyll just pass by on to the next car.

I know about the trick with the strap, I guess I was wondering if there was a better way. And I was wondering how hard it is to get the strap done on the P5, but from the sounds of Poseur's post it'll be a b****, but I'm gonna have to do it.

Has anyone removed the whole front of the stock stereo and used is to cover the face of an aftermarket HU?? I did that with a previous car and think I may have to do it again. I just haven't given the stocker a good look yet to see if it'll work.

The idea of bolting stuff in is a great one, too bad I bought the bolts but didn't have time to put them in!! :(

Thanks for the ideas!!

I tried doing it, but it is too bulky esp. if you have the cassette player. That piece just pops off, but you have a lot of space between the radio and the aftermarket HU. This isn't to say it can't be done, but you would have to try and get it really flush and there is not a lot of room behind the radio.

Well I got the face removed from the stock radio, it was pretty easy! The whole setup doesn't look too bad. I'll post some pics of it when the batteries charge in the camera.

*UPDATE*
The pics are now attached. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions. What is actually holding it in place is a CD I cut up and super glued on. It seems to be working quite well.

I think I maybe able to cut up underneath the stock face a bit more to help get it a little closer.
