yeah mine works about 30% of the time... the phone isn't much better.

had the same problem... oddly enough it turned out to be the male end of the plug i was using, probably not the same issue, but might be worth a try before tearing everything apart...

just picked one up myself... these guys are local to Richmond, Va - was able to pick it up in person.. it is the same Mazda part that sells for <$200 online.

ahhhh, it's fine. off-center and slightly distorted, but it shows me if something is behind me, and i can see my bumper before it hits the car behind me...

would love to see some pics of after-market install of the control unit...

i was told that the OEM remote start is part of the key - adds a button to the key... but a lot of dealers are adding it as an add-on dealer installed option, which requires a separate remote....
