Well that didn't work either... I have no more time off to work on the car so it'll have to go into a shop. Do you guys think it is safe to drive ~15 mins with it half torqued? There are a lot of threads showing so I can't imagine it ever coming off. Thanks for the suggestions

Ya it's the shaft. I read on another post that if you put the car on the wheels the nut will tighten without spinning the shaft so i am gonna give that a go.

Thanks for the suggestion i'll definitely check that out. I was thinking this morning that the pulley on the PS pump may have seized preventing my other belt from spinning freely which would not allow the alternator to charge the battery. No vibrations I can only really hear it at lower speeds and mostly on turns. Happens when I'm driving but if I turn the wheel at a stand still it makes a cracking noise as well. Not sure if that is a separate issue though. No vibration

I actually jacked the car up and rotated the tire and it seems to be coming from the axle where it's attached to the transmission. I'm guessing that can't be a good thing. Any other ideas?
