Anyone running 205/50-16's on their ES, P5, or MSP/MP3?

Anyone running 205/50-16's on their ES, P5, or MSP/MP3?

I'm using Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S in that size. I'm pleased overall. Changing the wheels to 7" width makes a big difference too. I initially tried the comparable summer PZero Nero, but found that the handling became spooky in the winter on dry tarmac - summer tires are typically not designed...

    abs and brake warning lights

Please read with comprehension. As I noted, the RUDE dealer drove the car and said it was performing as it should. I even returned to the dealer, posing as a prospective customer, so that I could drive a second MP5. Both cars have the same flaw. Now, someone might argue that it is a...

    abs and brake warning lights

I have been having the brake warning/failure light to come on during hard braking. The fluid level, in the brake fluid resevoir, is well within indicated acceptable limits. I suspect the problem will disappear temporarily by topping off the fluid level. There is entirely too much travel in...

    Fitment Recipe - 2nd Opinions

forget I asked . . . that application (re: load rating) is as, if not more, flawed as the OEM applicaton. I've come to the conclusion that there are no optimum wheel-tire applications w/o changing the final drive ratio. Anyone have the MSP LSD installed in a mp5?

    Fitment Recipe - 2nd Opinions

"the" recipe states 215/40-17 on a 7.5" wheel with 48 mm offset will fit a p5, i.e. no rubs and no rolls. Is there anyone out there that has _personally_ experienced this application and, if so, what were/are the results? mp5user

    Semperit sport grip winter tires?

Semperit is a Scandinavian tire, Swedish I think (think snow). They have been around for a long time too. About 30 years ago, Semperit got a very favorable review in a Car & Driver tire comparison. I don't know about these specific tires, but I believe Semperit would be a good choice for...

    Tire size recommand?

Tire choice is basically a personal decision. Given the great number of choices, parameters, preferences, and beliefs, it's no wonder the subject can support a good debate. Though our debate has been fun, I hope maybe it can also inspire some new internal dialog/debate. (bicker)

    Tire size recommand?

You're stepping into a gray area there. Given equal loading, will the tire with a lower wear index but a higher load index last as long as a tire with a lower load index but a higher wear rating? Or should I ask; given equal loading, will the tire with a higher load index but a higher wear...

    Tire size recommand?

Ah, but the 195/50 Kuhmo Ecsta 711 only has a H speed rating. Spend the extra 2 bucks and get a bigger tire with a Z speed rating!

    Tire size recommand?

Ah, but the 205/50 Kumho Ecsta 711 is $53 (@TireRack) . . . $69 is the lowest price for 195/50 (@TirRack). I was using speed rating of V+ as the only criterion other than size, i.e. not restricted to "All Season". A OEM load index of 83 is inadequate for the P5 IMHO. I'm not entirely happy...

    Tire size recommand?

As I see it, there are two distinctive benefits of the 205/50 vs. the 195/50. The 205 has a greater load index (87 vs. 83) and much greater selection (37 vs. 6 choices at TireRack). This greater selection actually allows for a much less expensive tire, if that is the goal. I upgraded the...

FAQ is Wrong re MP5 Stabilizer Bars

BTW - the FAQ has been updated to indicate the correct stabilizer bar diameters for the MP5

FAQ is Wrong re MP5 Stabilizer Bars

You need two variables for a ratio; you've only mentioned one when suggesting the rear stabilizer bar diameters. I'll be a little more explicit. Given the MazdaSpeed OEM stabilizer bar diameters are 27 mm and 20 mm for the front an rear respectively; and the MP5 OEM stabilizer bar diameters...

FAQ is Wrong re MP5 Stabilizer Bars

Modification priorities should reflect your goals, e.g. looks, handling, balance, control. Going to a higher load-rated tire was my first choice. The tires are the "transducers" and, arguably, the single most important suspension component. A correspondingly wider wheel will help make the...
