After much searching, I have no answers. Can someone tell me if this Mazda motor oil part #0000-77-5W30-QT is conventional oil, synthetic blend, or full synthetic?
The dealership told me (and charged me) it was synthetic. I don’t know if that means synthetic blend, or full synthetic. My question is… if it’s synthetic, why wouldn’t Mazda put that on the label? I think Mazda's oil marketed in Canada has synthetic on the label. It's not just premium, it's super premium.![]()
That’s why I previously never purchased synthetic "blends"… well, until I started getting oil changes at Mazda dealerships. Is that blend like the Juice Cocktail blends at the supermarket that are 3% Juice and 97% cheaper ingredients? Super.
Interesting. I emailed Mazda about a question as well, pertaining to their ECU programming , i asked if the US bound NON Turbo CX5's were programmed differently than CX5's going to other parts of the world. (I wanted to get some solid justifications for the 0w20 recommendations beyond CAFE requirements) Their response was similar to yours. "ask the dealership".. Ask the dealership? With all due respect to the GREAT DEALERSHIPS out there (There are some) in general, The dealership is the LAST place Im going to ask for ANYTHING pertaining to my CX5 especially oil. Since too many of them they tend to overfill engines consistently. ..I love mazda and my cx5 overall, but there are things they do that have me scratching my head. Like this post for example. It baffles me that they would use a conventional or even a blend. However, I also have this sort of trust in their oils that theyve done the tests with them. Just wish they would be more straightforward with customer inquiries beyond "Ask the dealership". Then again, maybe im in some sort of cult and like being lied to.. LOL!my dealership told me per Mazda it conventional lol...
I think it is pretty strange they don't say synthetic on the bottle...If you look at the 5W30 that is sold in Canada it specifies synthetic on the bottle. I actually emailed mazda...
It bugged me that the Mazda branded 5W30 oil is conventional oil (in USA market) so yesterday I emailed Mazda USA thinking I would probably not get a response back, but to my surprise the next day (today) I received a reply. The reply was "Mazda recommends conventional SAE 5W-30 engine oil be used for your vehicle engine type to ensure that your vehicle operates as intended and to ensure maximum engine performance. If you would rather use synthetic engine oil for your vehicle please consult with the service department of your nearest Mazda to confirm this will not harm your vehicle."...

HAHAHA! I can totally relate to that.Yea, overfilling the engine oil seems to be an epidemic. I firmly ask not to have my oil overfilled when I check in with the service shop. That way, it’s only slightly overfilled.
