What have you done to your CX-5 today?

New tires on my CX-5...

Have always been glad I don't have to put up with that kind of crap. It truly makes a car a "consumable" item. There's got to be a better way!

Don't blame you.

The latest joy? The past four days, or so, the carwash has been frozen-up with all the low single-digit temps. Closed. And it has pretty much meant the two-bucket DIY method has been off the table, as I don't want to be losing fingers or slip-slidin' around.

Which means one thing. All that road salt's percolating. Ugh. Am waiting for the temps to get back to above freezing, so they'll open up.

No wonder a couple of the nearby neighbors head to Florida, this time of year.

I had heard that because carwashes recycle water, it's a BAD thing to use one when roads have been salted - they concentrate the salt content of the water and actually inject MORE salt into the undercarriage.

Not sure if that's true or not. Anyone have any facts?

Not a lot of choices, when any other water placed on the vehicle results in a layer of ice on it.

This morning: found a touchless carwash that has a newer facility, one greatly protecting its inside-the-walls piping. They've also got well-sealed automatic doors at both ends. Combined, things don't freeze-up at that place.

They're a tad more expensive, and they don't seem to support those of us who don't have smart phones (for texts, tracking), so the better-priced wash bundles are out (ie, monthly fee = unlimited washes, which I'd do during the winter months). But at least their facility is functional.

So! Now have a freshly hosed-down exterior on the CX-5, plus undercarriage wash.

I'll need to get in touch with the owner of that shop, to see if they have means of printing out a receipt+barcode for those of us who prefer a "paper" transaction. Getting harder all the time, for that. And I'll ask about their wash water filtering, possible recycling. Hard to imagine they'd re-route soiled and salted wash water back into the bays, no matter how hard-up they were; but you never know.

They cost enough, they could afford fresh water. Maybe in the summer in a drought prone area it wouldn't be so bad.
