News Mazda working with Toyota on Supra replacement?

That's the rumor coming from Japan. Great video here mentioned in another thread by @GTXT23. Definitely worth a watch...It appears Mazda and Toyota might be working on the next gen Supra together with the engine based on Mazda's current inline6. There might be a version from each brand. On a related note...This may be in addition to the Iconic SP becoming reality.

Here's the vid...

On a side note...We may see a flurry of Japanese sports car models return to the market over the next several years which is very exciting!

Oh and I'm debuting our new "News" thread prefix which to be clear is only for Mazda/Automotive/Mazdas247 related news.

Wait a minute...Since we've recently learned that Mazda may be working with Toyota on the next Miata (sharing manufacturing?) than that adds more weight to this story as well...So it's possible we might actually see a new flagship sports car from Mazda in addition to a new Miata...That would be very exciting!

Nice. Seeing it come from David lends it credibility. It seems he is using the same source, "Best Car" magazine which is where the Miata rumor comes from.

Big shoes to fill replacing that B58.

I don't see how the Iconic SP fits into all of this, which I thought was like a next-gen RX. Would they really have both sports cars plus a Miata? 3 sports cars from Mazda? I don't see them supporting that many models.

Also, what comes of the RX Vision? Or is that toast, scrapped in favor of the Iconic SP? So many questions.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing...Seems like all these "rotary-powered" concepts are just a tease and they have no intention to take them into production. Perhaps they think it's enough to show these just to maintain a unique image...I hope not!

I would be very disappointing if we don't see a production version of the Iconic SP...The only scenario that seems most likely now is that they release a new sports car based on the new Supra. I'm not sure if that's a good thing ultimately but I'll take it over nothing!

Also despite Mazda's marketing as a driver/driving/sporty brand, the reality is they most sell SUVs now and if they don't do something to balance out the SUVs, they could start to loose that image.

I really prefer the look of the RX-Vision. I hope this is the direction they take this new sports car.

Oh definitely agree, I've seen it in person and it is breathtaking! That said, I mentioned the Iconic SP because it's newer, there's probably a shelf life on design concepts so likely we'd have to see a new version of this style/type to base any hopes on at this point.
