*Unpopular Opinion* I just got greased at the dealer and I don't care

So, I had to get an oil change and a tire rotation. Turns out I was at a service interval that requires a brake service.

Dealer actually has this cool thing where they send you a video of the tech working on your vehicle and they show you what's wrong. The Cabin air filter was disgusting. Yes they greased me for 74 dollars to replace but I don't care. Why? I'm going in for a hip replacement on Saturday and I don't feel like struggling to replace it.

They also completed some warranty work. Problem with the TCU communicating to the DTC or something. It was an infotainment thing. Also fixed the drivers seat leather, it came apart at the back.

All and all it cost me $475 CDN for all of the work. The dealer was professional, polite, showed me everything. Yes it was expensive but I don't care. They treated me right.

Oh and they had me out in just under 2 hours.

JK, when you're in pain, you simply can't do certain things. My wife just had her hip done in November, and before that happened, it hurt me just watching her walk around.

normally speaking, replacing the cabin filter is an easy 5 minute job... just either take the glovebox out, or drop it on your knees while you swap the filter out

I kept thinking that folks with newer model cars are much younger than I am. All this talk about aftermarket hips helped correct my misconception. Grease or no grease, it's wise to take good care of our Mazdas!

Perhaps it's possible to have a diagnostic trouble code related to your infotainment, but, the fact you mentioned your TCU makes me think otherwise.

Also, the TCU, doesn't "communicate" with a diagnostic trouble code. Makes no sense.

I highly recommend that you look these things up yourself, or at the very least, actually understand what the dealership did before adamantly challenging me to look things up when, the information you've provided makes NO sense.

Don’t have a dog in the fight here, but this could also be the telematics or telecommunications control unit. That could have an issue with the infotainment. Didn’t see anything that suggested a transmission issue

No worries! Not a lot of info to go off of (agreed, systems don’t communicate to DTCs. DTCs are generated to communicate an issue). Even OP didn’t know there was an issue of some sort, I’m interested to hear what the dealership described was the issue on the inovice.

TCU is "Telematics Control Unit."

You're thinking of the TCM, "Transmission Control Module"

FYI, next time you need a cabin filter replaced, buy online for $10 and spend the two minutes to replace. Then take your $65 savings and go out for a nice dinner.
