2025 CX-5 USB-C Flash Drive Compatibility

:
2019 & 2023
Has anybody found a USB-C Flash Drive that works in a 2025 CX-5?
My sister just took delivery of one and I offered to put some mp3 songs on a flash drive for her. She bought a Samsung 64GB drive and I formatted it on a Windows 11 PC. I first used the drive’s default and added some songs. When I plugged it into the consoles port a message popped saying Unsupported USB Device. I reformatted it as a NTFS drive and I got the same message when I tried it.
Since the drive and the port are native USB-C I shouldn’t have to use any adapters. Has anybody gotten one to work?

Solution
Solved. I ended up having to use the Shrink Volume command on the 64GB drive and shrunk it in half to 32GB.

To recap: I have a new Windows 11 PC with a single USB-C port in the front. I was using a Samsung flash drive. By default, Windows 11 only allows us to format using exFAT and NTFS in File Explorer. The 2025 CX-5’s console USB a port reported an incompatible device when it tried to read the greater than 32GB device.

I had tried all the suggestions and YouTube videos with no luck. Things it did looked very promising but Windows 11 still didn’t like me and my 64GB drive. I used Command Line and PowerShell as Administrator with various parameters and waiting almost an hour for my FAT32 command format to complete. It’s frustrating...
Maybe there is something different about the USB-C hub in the car?
You mean in his car?
I doubt it.

My CX-5 2023 has only USB-C ports in the center console.
I have a 64GB USB stick with both a USB-A and a USB-C connector.
It has one FAT32 partition of 64GB (the maximum size).
It works without any problem.

I had read that others were successful. Were they with the triple negative I talk about below?

This could be an issue for the future. Windows 11 replacing Windows 10 PCs, USB technology migrating to USB-C, and flash storage devices going above 32GB. It would seem these would be a triple positive but in my case it was a triple negative.

I don’t have an Apple PC but it would be interesting to see if that allows it. My new PC only has 1 USB-C port and my Windows 10 has none. I didn’t want to buy a multi-port USB hub with an USB-C port for my old PC unless I really had to.
Thanks for your interest.

I think you have made a mistake to format the new USB stick.
Like stickerbush wrote, most (if not all) new USB sticks are FAT32 formatted.

I have no experience with Win11, but maybe you should ask ChatGPT how to format your 64GB USB-C stick with FAT32 on a WIN11 machine.
Sooner or later 32GB is not enough and it will be frustrating to know that your USB stick is 64GB capable ;-)

In looking at the reviews I bought, it came as FAT32. My desire to wipe anything that may have been on it (I.e. ads, utilities, etc.) and start with a clean drive did me in. At least I and anyone who reads this are more educated.
