The type R is a legit track car you can drive daily whereas the Golf R is like a refined hot hatch. The current Sti is a throwback to the early 2000's when the Evo roamed the streets. If I ever get a Type R i'd get a white one and "white" it out with white wheels like those Type R's from the 90's.

The Honda wasn't really on my radar because of all the fake vents and giant wing and s***, but it's definitely a fast...no, scratch that...TIGHT car.

Give me an EK9 from 2000 done up the same way with the new turbo engine. a 250hp NA K24 would be cool too. Basically, I'll take the styling of yesterday, and the power of today. LOL

Lol I agree! Manufacturers have gone a little (or a lot) crazy with excessive styling. It seems that Lexus and Honda are especially notorious for this.

I love Civic Type R in performance, but it does seems like the designers were going for the Transformers look. I keep thinking one of those are going to unfold into a giant robot.
It seems like every reviewer makes a comment about the looks.
Pretty crazy. If you look at an old ITR it's so sleek and free of all that pasted on s***. Even the previous version of the Civic Si was pretty cool looking. Definitely sleek compared to the new Need For Speed Civic.
Too bad, because Honda has that great rep for reliability...The only other company (IMO), that's better is Toyota, who offers nothing in the way of a quick hatchback. Honda should be at the top of our list, but that damn styling kills what's a great little car...for me anyway.

We have a 17 Civic EX-T and my wife loves it. A lot of amenities, quiet, good gas mileage and it would probably have the edge on my older CX-5. But it is still an econo turbo with a CVT.
If the R looked like the Civic Coupe or si I would definitely consider one. I don't like the huge fake vents on the rear bumper area, but I could live with it. The giant wing that probably has little true function for most people is just not for me.
Older guy wearing skinny jeans is about like older guy (me) driving a Civic Type R. Maybe if I drove one I would change my mind and also go get me some skinny jeans.

They are legit performers. I know people who do not at all embody "big wing" personalities who have/have owned them simply because of their lineage and performance. NSX-T owners, etc. The wing and vents are, however, sadly unfortunate in everyone's opinion.

Dunno where you live, but one friend of mine who has one lives in Atlanta, and the 35 series tires have cost him multiple times due to pot holes. The type r legit performs, but it does so with a bunch of compromise and horrid aesthetics. If they had just made it livable like a Golf R.
