What did you pay for your CX-5?

Just bought a new 2019 Signature, Deep Crystal Blue

MSRP: $37,935
Negotiated price: $35241
Loyalty rebate: $750
Positive equity from lease: $315 (I had only put on 20k miles on my lease to trade in, so the dealer bought it rather than returning it to Mazda Capital Services)
Effective price of the car: $34,176

Plus:
$344 fees to state
$749 doc fee (to dealer)
$2125 sales tax
$651 dent/ding and wheel coverage (I live in the city, accrued about $800 in ding damage on my 2016 CX-5 lease in the three years I had it)

How did I do?

The Sport sells in low numbers. Also getting a deal on Sport and Touring is tougher as there are more buyers in the 20-27K range than in the 27K + range, also most Mazda dealers stock low # of Sport. Seeing the MSRP its almost close to a base touring back in 16. I think you did well. I am curious to see what is in the iactiv sense package and how you like it.

I am trying to analyze your statement.

Low in numbers but more buyers in the 20-27K?

There is no incentive for dealers to discount sport and touring models much. They are stocked in lower numbers and sell with out much cash on hood.

I dunno man. The poster got 12.2% off MSRP. That beats the discount in terms of percentage and dollars that almost everyone is posting on GT/GTR/Sig.

Right .. but keep in mind my discount is on a 2018 .. which sure they wanted to get rid of..
And FWD also might be a factor .. ? Boston area..

Its 5/29/2019 He got 12.2 on a 2018. I have seen people get 12+ on same model year 5 / 6 months ago release for Touring / Sport. If I was buying a 2018 Touring with package - I would be looking to hit 17-22% off MSRP.

Right, thats why I was wondering if I did well .
I was comparing this to market and 22.5 was a price of a used 2018 sport or touring with around (under) 10k miles
Timing on the other hand was the factor as old car was totaled and
I was already happy with discount I found.

I dont understand your take. I was replying to your suggestion that dealers have no incentive to discount lower end models. Yet you cite 12+ on new model years and 17-22 on late model years, which Im saying are better or equal to the discount people are getting on upper trims.

The unicorn discounts I have seen are 17-22% on a Mazda. Like only 2 or 3 so far. 17-22% on a base Sport is not heard of. These 17 - 22 range is for top trim AWD loaded GT (back when GT-R and Signature were not present). I have never seen a Sport or Touring hit this number.
The Golden discounts or next tier are 12-17% imo. These again very few Touring / Sport. So lower trims are not discounted to the same percentage as top trims. This is my general observation. For an 18 model mid trim - I would target 17% up. For an 18 model Sport - hitting 17% up is difficult. 17% off a Sport is 20,xxxx which means a lot of CPO / Used low budget buyers would opt for it. 17% off a 33K car is still 27,XXX which again - people on a budget would not spend that much. Another trend is # of Sport / Touring dealers stock is on lower side. A buyer deciding Touring is in my budget has fewer cars and probably same or more number of potential buyers vying for it. So more competition and higher price.
GT-R or Signature may not see 17% off MSRP if the dealers stock in lower numbers - time will tell. I feel we will see a Signature under 30K sold by end of year and multiple GT-Rs in 27 thousand range.

To summarize long winded answer
Dealer has 10 GT
5 T
2 Sport
His margins are highest on GT and lowest on Sport.
Keeping a GT longer on his lot is more expensive than keeping a Sport. Sport will always have buyers who want a new car but don't care for features - price point buyers.
Combination of the above : there is no reason to price Sport as aggressively as they price GT.

I wouldn*t pay Less than 15% off right now on a GT-R or Sig, and if I was in the market for one, I*d get it, and it doesn*t matter where it*s located...

Yes, I will be the guy that gets the $27k or thereabouts GT-R, no worries...

s***, I'd buy one if it was $27k.

Yea, mine and $5k cash, and I may bite. F'it, maybe this weekend...lol

However tempting, it's best right now to just rack up the miles on the one I got while under warranty (still below average miles for the year). At 60k, will reevaluate (close to 3 years probably)...lol Surely, they get better with time, anyhow, and I'm not too worried about the price. Make my dreams come true and give me a Zoom Zoom version (only thing that would talk me into trading tmw for sure...)

I'm looking to buy a CX-5 GTR in the next few days probably. Located in northern Colorado. Just started getting price quotes. One is 34,099 selling price + 699 dealer fee + tax. I see people talking about 27-30k here and this quote is nowhere near that. Is the quote I got a realistic price today or too high? Can I do better? Thanks for any opinions.

The talk of sub-$30k for a GTR is aspirational. No ones really offering those kinds of discounts from what I can tell. No reason to expect more than around 10% off in my opinion.

Bought a red 2019 GT with AWD (MSRP $33,435) in the Bay Area for $29,200 after a $1k rebate, before taxes and fees. For you non-California folks, be happy, as this translates into $32.5k OTD.

I*ll take it as a compliment!

Are you in the DC area? If so, do you mind telling me which dealership you purchased from? Thanks!

Brown's in Fairfax. Had a great experience. Ourisman in Rockville and Koons in Silver Spring also gave similar quotes
