US Diesel's big splash introduction

Looks like I'm buying a silver 3 Sport GT manual this coming weekend. So no diesel for me (for now anyway).

At least I'm staying in the Mazda family!

^Nice...with your (respectable) insistence on wanting to stay with 3 pedals its a very nice choice right now short of spending way more $$. Did I mention I drove the 3 pedal turbo Veloster last week? Clubs wouldn't get in the trunk to nicely but idk that might be a tough choice for me right now (it was pretty good if not quite exhilarating)...styling is definitely love it/hate it(I kinda dig it) though the 3 is a half to full step up in terms of class/maturity. I'd say its worthy of a look..

Speaking of $$$$...

Yeah I was actually leaning heavily to the GSW as it would have given us a nice step up in space but Mazda presently has a hell of a lot of rebates etc on right now with their 50th anniversary, the 3 being EOL etc. All on top of the 3 starting out less expensive (and cheaper to maintain).

If they were within a few grand/$50'ish a month over 60, I'd be a soon to be VW owner right now. As it stands though, after taxes we were looking at a ~$7200 price difference. $7200 extra is a lot to pay for some extra trunk space and AWD (confused).

Now I need to find out if I can import a legit Mazda hitch from Australia... Where's @Xeler8ing? (drinks)

Good morning :)

I don't believe they ship overseas but you can always ask Mazda Australia via the link below:

Contact Us Mazda Australia

P.S - here's the link to the tow bar kit for Mazda 3 (might be cheaper if you get it from the states or nearby country)

Mazda 3 Tow bar kit AUD $938.29

P.P.S - for comparisons sake, if you had CX-5 diesel there, here's the equivalent part:

Mazda CX-5 Tow bar kit AUD $1209.45

Yeah that's a pretty big spread for sure- get some nice winters on dedicated wheels and still a boatload leftover not to mention s*** will actually work when you need it;)

Yikes they want your 1st born for that tow bar too!? lol

Thanks X8. As far as I know, can't get that hitch in USA/Canada and the aftermarket ones here have lower towing capacity (though that might be my only route). Going to investigate what's available from Europe etc as well. Also, I figure it doesn't hurt to have an 'official Mazda' unit in case anyone gets pissy about warranty. Might not help either, but it can't hurt.

Getting a 'winter tire pack' as part of the sale of the car ;)

Surprised official version not sold there....

I can't write that Aussie corporate will, but CAN confirm that individual dealers will ship parts to Canada. I sourced my rear outboard head restraints directly from a Sydney dealer using email to confirm details and then a 'phone call to complete payment. I did learn later that due to relative currency values it would have, at that time, been cheaper to source from the UK.

PITA and not cheap though, especially once you factor in shipping. Good on ya for doing it though.

May just go with the Draw-Tite option + wiring and Tekonsha controller that I can get locally and installed for less than the kit from Mazda AUS costs before shipping, controller and install.

Really not worth importing from here

Cx5 diesel US mpg 28 city and 31 highway. Combined is 29. These are fwd numbers. Amazing mpg I am guessing 150-250,000 sales due to diesel. Beats my current fwd by 1 mpg. Torque baby.

That is strange considering our AWD diesel figures:

City: 6.5L/100km (36.19 USmpg)
Highway: 5.2L/100km (45.23 USmpg)
Combined: 5.7L/100km (41.27 USmpg)

Surely he*s being sarcastic considering Mazda didn*t even sale 150k CX-5 total in the US.

It*s not happening,I wouldn*t buy one if it doubled the MPG I get now,and like I*ve always said, they*ll find out the hard way as well. It*s gotta make it here first. Still waiting. Imagine that...lol

Think all that effort (compliance) to get it there has really harmed your fuel economy figures....
