Where Is Mazda Headed Next?

I like the 2017 CX-5 front end :D

I agree, it looks really good in sedan form. The proportions and sheet metal are beautiful.

It would never happen, but just imagine if they slipped the Miata RWD architecture under the top trim? Front/rear split at 30/70.

Why? This 2019 Mazda 6 concept is going to be RWD, while the Mazda 3 will stay FWD as a cheaper more sensible alternative. It makes sense.

As they say, to each their own. (drinks)

all pre 2017 owners are loving the pre-facelift CX-5, while all the 2017 owners say that the new one looks nicer.

since I own the 6, from my unbiased perspective I think that the newest model looks far more sleek and premium. I love the shape of the headlights and the cool black grille.

but then again, i would understand why some of you prefer the older looks because it's just what you're used to. while I do like the facelifted mazda 6 and the interior is very nice, I've gotten so accustomed to my pre-facelifted mazda 6 that I just prefer it's looks over the new one, so it's a toss-up.

I will admit that the main reason why I like the pre-facelifted 6 sedan is because of the gorgeous liquid silver paint which was unfortunately dropped in 2017.

so yes, I agree - to each their own. but I love Mazda's new styling language and I am very happy to see it transfer over to the upcoming mazda 6 sedan.

No it's not because it's what I'm used to. Thanks for trying to tell me why I like/dislike something. (scratch)

I'm not about premium. I've been very vocal about my dislike of the stylistic direction Mazda has taken as an attempt to move up market.

Regarding the CX-5 at least, needs a nose job and some swoop! Where's my swoop!? Also not a fan of chicken wire grill. Much prefer mine. Not premium by any stretch of the imagination, but was a good simple look that fit.

Don't you think Mazda's resistance in embracing new technologies like CVT will come back to bite them at some point? We know that theoretically CVT is much smoother and more fuel efficient than other types of transmission. The current CVTs are far from perfect but the companies who are trying them are gaining knowledge and experience in developing them and hooking them up with their engines. They will perfect the art in a few generations while Mazda has 0 experience doing so and will have to play catch up for years. The same goes for hybrids and EVs.

Transmissions is not the be all end all for fuel efficiency. There are other factors that help fuel efficiency.

Companies are actually moving to 8-10 speed conventional automatics as well and dual clutch and fuel economy is improving. Until big players such a Ford, Benz, BMW VW/AUDI etc get involved in CVT's, their proliferation will be limited.

I am glad Mazda is staying away from CVTs. Their conventional 6 speed auto is a far better driving experience and with current other car technologies they have in their cars, their fuel efficiency is fairly decent.

Apologies for the new thread posted on the Mazda concepts.

Still think it deserves its own thread due to it being the official reveal of design concept and not leaked images. (lol)

Anyhow, the links below has the official full gallery of images for each of the concept.

Your second link says file not found.

The next generation might be incorporated in the next 3 sedan and 6 sedan

Details released:

Mazda Kai Concept previews 2019 Mazda3

We believe the new Mazda 3 on the updated platform wont be available until early or mid-2019. Its likely the brand will maintain its current 2.0 and 2.5-litre powertrains and keep Skyactiv-X engines for range-topping models.

More details:

KAI concept an accurate pointer to Mazdas all-new small hatch due in 2019

On one hand I think that is stupid. Nobody in America is going to buy a 30K+ Mazda 3, no matter what engine is in there. Americans are fat and can't fit in those cars. That is the big problem now.

On the other hands, I think if they can make it into a premium "performance" product a Focus RS, it could be something. But I don't see them doing that.

Cvts are NOT new technology and they sap driving fun I would never ever buy one ever..so to answer your question..no and there's always a trade off and sky x.

On the new SkyActiv-X engine the black cap is likely the engine oil cap. Whats that second "silver" cap?

Access opening to the Oscillation Overthruster?

Wait a minute, its on the supercharger? Do superchargers have oil caps LOL? errrr it reminds me of a radiator coolant cap actually.

Intercooler maybe... although I don't see it anywhere. Maybe its tiny? The engine displacement is relatively small
