GT Tech Package....regrets?

I think the tech LED's are worth it, just FYI, there were some concerns of the DRL's flickering / failing though, search the forums, all fixed under warranty. but the whole front bumper needs to removed and the whole LED housing had to be replaced. I've also seen some CX-5 with flickering DRL's or one dimmer than the other on the road.

No, LED lighting and AFS etc. are optional for 2016/2016.5 GT, in Tech Package.

17 outclasses 16.5 by a ton. Its not even that 16.5 was a bad cuv. 17 seems just a cuv from 2020 except fuel economy.

aw c'mon, I'm a big Mazda fan, but that's a bit over exaggeration , I've seen better interiors.... the HVAC controls can be a bit higher,

it's just a massive empty space above and below the center vents, like the center front vents is the centerpiece of the dash, the empty space reminds me of amusement park go karts with no center dash elements, also no CD player for US models..

the dash is still old fashion plastic round gauges instead of LED screens.. even all that I still like not love the new CX-5. the front looks like a car smiling the Mazda logo is the nose and the long horizontal line is the smile....not aggressive looking at all, they should have used big functional fog lights towards the lower bumper.

Conditions for it to work are in the manual, one being if you are already braking it will not cut in, another is it only cuts in below I think 19mph.
Although systems do exist that work at much higher speeds.

I have never had either car stop using scbs, but the garage assures me its working.

No known issues, NervousZ. Just trepidation at the possible replacement cost. A replacement headlight is $1,300!
If you're really worried about longevity, don't use auto headlights. I turn mine off occasionally during the day when it's real nice out.
I don't think my SCBS works (joking). I've gotten pretty close to my garage or my wife's car just to get it to work. How close do you have to be?!? LOL. Closer then I'm willing to test apparently. Keeping my eye out for big cardboard boxes to really test it. Haha
This can also be disabled permanently in settings.

Yes I think they could have made the screen twice as big, looks tiny on top of the dash.

Having had both the xenon and now the led headlights I don't find the led one any better, the cut off is still too low IMO, despite two different garages saying they are ok.

I really regret not buying the sport option pack at 800, but at the time wasn't aware just how the system worked, this video shows how they work, knowing that I now know it would have solved my complaint re the low beam cut off.

Ohhh. Of course I knew about the 19mph. And for an extra $1,800 it works at any speed. Really? Is there some extra cost associated with the higher speed braking? Kind of lame, Mazda. But I did not know about the must not be braking. Thanks.
Re: interior lux. I still don't love the tablet screen, and I don't think the RX 350 I sat in a few weeks ago looks all THAT much more luxurious. In fact, I thought it was kind of gaudy. But the screen is twice as wide and somehow that looks nicer to me. Is Mazda copying Lexus? Why is the tablet screen apparently all the rage now?

Xtrail, is the "Sport package" the same as our iActive? These headlights confuse me. I have ALH, but not "Auto Brights" which is iAcyice I thought. So do mine only turn with the wheel or do they do all that other fancy s*** like not blinding incoming drivers?

SCBS (rear or front) can not be disabled permanently in settings - at least, not in Aus models. As far as I can work it out.
I have to disable mine when I am backing my boat trailer, otherwise it slams the brakes on!
Yep, we don't have rear SCBS and we have no issues when towing.

ALH definitely a much more advanced LED headlight system. Unfortunately we can't have it here in the US due to out-of-date DOT headlight regulations! (notcool)

Good god. Luxurious? So Honda with that fake wood trim, and Lexus with this brown trim. God if that is what "luxury" is, I want no part of it.

I agree on the tablet. I'm not overly fond of that design choice by Mazda. I don't like things protruding over the dash.

So you are telling me that my ALH don't do anything other then pivot 15 degrees? And if I had iAcyive with "Auto Bright" it just toggles brights? What DOT regulation says "you can't have lights that don't blind other drivers"?

And sitting in that seat? I felt like a tool. My bosses wife who knows I'm a car guy and wanted to show me her new toy, asked me to setup her Homelink. It felt like I was sitting in a recliner in my living room. Great when I'm...Y'know...Sitting in my living room. Felt ****** up in a car. I'm a skinnyish dude...I felt like my son and I could both fit in that seat...And the armrest is mammoth. I don't know...If this is the car to buy when you've "arrived"....I'ma keep Zoom Zooming.... 😋

We don't have ALH as it's not available here in the US! Go click those YouTube links provided earlier and see the difference between ALH and our LED headlights with AFS. Basically the former is full electronic controlled LED headlight system without any moving parts, but our LED headlights with AFS is a mechanical system which eventually could wear out. Our DOT regulation mandates distinct low-beam and high-beam headlight, can't be anything in between which ALH is doing. Audi and Toyota had filed petition to NHTSA trying to change the DOT headlight regulation and make the ALH legal in the US. But that was 3 years ago and so far NHTSA has done nothing about the petition.

Ah. I thought mine were called AHL. It's AFS, you're right. So I was right about that. Tech Package lights only swivel 15 degrees. Adding iActive gives you Auto Brights...And that's all. Really glad I didn't pay extra for that package.

Agreed.

I totally want one of those Miata RF's...

I'll keep zoom zooming too :)

Yeah, for the first week after I got my car, I kept driving around at night with my high beams on trying to test the auto-dimming feature. Until I realized I didn't have them. Probably pissed some other drivers off! :D

I'm not familiar with the US trims, but the sport is the top trim model in the UK, It comes with AFS which can be seen working in fog, otherwise I can't tell its working.

As I said the sport has one main option pack which does include the fancy clever LED light control.

And I think I was wrong about braking preventing SCBS from working, although that may have applied to the 2013 car.
The 2015 manual says steering input or accelerator being used, will prevent it operating.

Touring with no Tech Package. Absolutely no regrets.
I don't like leather, and in fact, the leather on my steering wheel is a sore point for the car. Having a hard time keeping it not sticky.
Standard headlights are very bright, better than my former car.
LED seems like a fad to me, eventually will become standard.
Funny how at home you pay extra *not* to have cooler, blueish lights and to have warmer, incandescent like light.

Regarding tablet like screen in the 2017 - this is what we have in our Mazda 3. I like it better than my CX-5. It is in field of sight, without removing my eyes from the road though without blocking any part of the view of the road. The cabin is more open, with better outward visibility.
The screen eliminates many unneeded buttons and keeps a clean look for the cabin.
If only it had Android Auto, it would have been perfect.
