What did you pay for your CX-5?

Tax is 8% depending on the county here.

Alrighty, well that accounts for it being $1000 more than mine was then.

Anyway, just email multiple dealers and get them to compete with each other. You get a price from one take it to others and keep going until you get to the best you're going to get. That's essentially your counter-offer.

Yeah.
Only problem is they're all offering me around the same price out the door with taxes and fees. No one is really coming in way under the other.

Show you are eager to buy. But don't counter. Countering limits your opportunity to bring discount down. Bring in competing brands. Say the Nissan looks better deal as they are putting more cashback. You are in NY... I expect 4 dealers to be in the mix. Also your absolute best deal may happen near the month end or even after 2017 is released. I strongly recommend test driving 2017 model before buying 2016.5 one.

I'll try the Nissan thing and see what they say. I've already test driven a 2016.5 and I told them I want to take delivery by next week. I'm not really interested in the 2017 and can't really wait that long to get a vehicle (didn't tell them that part).

Right. At a certain point you can take the best number, shoot it to another dealer and see what you get. I had an offer for $25,578 on one, took it to the other dealer and got $25,500 + free oil changes for life. At that point realized it was about the best it was going to get and was happy with the price as it was in-line with the going rate at the time. Tried a couple of other dealers and at that point they were only matching, not beating.

Keep in mind Mazda is not Toyota or something so you won't see the same kind of large amounts off MSRP you might see with those bigger brands.

True, but they should be able to give me some sort of a deal. At this point the best I have is just eating the tax from the price. No one is offering me any sort of oil or services or add ons. Only 1 dealer offered to deliver the vehicle to me because I live quite a bit away from them (I don't really care about having to get someone to drive me out to a dealer to pick it up myself so that's not really incentive for me to buy).

Biggest question is how long can you wait. If you can wait longer - i think you should see a $500-$1000 price point. The Bose Audio is $1100, the AWD option is i think $1400 - if my memory serves me right - I got FWD Touring with Bose for 23900. + Taxes. I think you can get yours by 25000 + Taxes - worst case.
If you cannot wait - you need to take this deal specially if colors are important to you.

At 27700 OTD - your base price is 25350 or so - You can do 500 better but you need to wait or email few far out dealers and ask nearer ones to beat the competition.

Another bit of experience - I bought my car on Saturday. Till that day morning my best deal was $900 more than my final deal.
I got the best deal + Window tints + cargo cover worth $67
So have patience when things move they move fast.

One email from one dealer says:
" I would love to earn your business and initially you asked me for my best price and that's exactly what I gave you. I am not the type of person to give people the run around and not give someone my best price when they ask for it. So the number I gave you previously without financing is my best price ($27,949.70) and then you would just have to pay your DMV fees on top of that. The price I gave you on the Touring CX-5 without financing is a very good deal, but I understand you want to get the best deal for yourself and save the most money. Hopefully we can do business, I have been here since the day we opened in 2010 and provide nothing but the best experience for my customers."

I'm not getting the bose audio or any other packages. Just the cargo cover.
Yeah, I can't wait too long. I need another vehicle. I'll probably just have to take the lower of the deals within a week.

Yep that's the rub. At $25350ish, that's a pretty good deal for a no options Touring with AWD (mine was $25500).

You're not going to see that price dropping much past that (if at all) until the '17s come out and they start trying to unload the 2016.5s. I guess Kaps thinks you might be able to get more off within the 500 range, but only if you try hard enough and get the right dealer.

Kaps has some good advice.

All right. Thanks. I have an offer of $27,500 out the door with taxes and fees currently.

I mean, I agree with Kaps, try to get more off with some other dealers to see if they'll beat that OTD you have now. Try some further away dealers too.

If you can, great, if not, then you know you got the best price you can get.

And again, if you could wait, then you'll get better deals on the 2016.5s when the '17 drops, but otherwise try the above and see what happens.

I like this guy. When I talked to my dealer I said "I want your best price upfront. Don't give me this let me talk to my manager crap”. I felt that he did. In the end he gave me another grand for my trade in. I feel I got a great deal.

Yeah. Definitely.
I can't wait that long unfortunately. We need 2 vehicles. My VW TDI is getting sold back the 15th.

Good profit for many TDI owners. Story on Jalopnik few actually flipped TDI cars - early adopters made 4-5K Profit on these. Later on with too many folks willing to buy that number went down.
So what did you get?

Ah. Yeah.
Buyback is pushed til Thursday (tomorrow) due to the snow we got. We got around 2 feet. I'm thankful they can squeeze me in and didn't make me wait longer.
I'm hoping I can get a CX-5 next week. Just have to lock down the best deal still. I didn't hear from any dealers today as they were probably closed due to the snow.

I will still recommend a 2017. You will have buyers remorse. Buy a touring with preferred pkg. It will be worth it.

We sold our TDI back to VW back in late November and bought our CX-5 in early December.

Good luck with yours!
