How fortunate some seem to be making out ok trading a Jeep since the brand is doing so badly what with ALL the tranny problems, cars killing people, etc.

The 545rfe was a good slush box I am told. Meh. Point is, the grand jeep Cherokee with qd2 and hemi loaded out is a rediculously capable offroader, and people pay for that in addition to luxury features that blow the cx5 away even half a decade later, regardless of the brand itselfs reputation.

The jeep offered unique features. The cx5 is just another CUV with slightly different this or that. It offers nothing functionally different from a rav4, etc. Where the Jeep was armored, had a 360hp/390#tq engine, elsd front and rear, 4wd low locked, all time AWD 52/48% split, and a host of other things that you won't be finding unless you price at about 2x the level the Jeep was (I believe MB's GLK550 is the cheapest "functional competitor"...). That made it unique in its class, and you could demand and expect a premium. The cx5? It's all taste. I like...I prefer...I find such and such nice...it doesn't have 100# more torque or a locking AWD to with elsd, etc in a class where no one else compares. The jeep was kind of the supra mkiv of the entry level luxury suv world.

There literally are ZERO vehicles that you can cross-shop with the Grand Jeep Cherokee, 2010 w/HEMI and QD2 in the same price bracket. What are you going to buy? A Ford explorer with the V6? The 5.4 Triton? Absolute joke compared to the HEMI. have fun towing that boat nearly as well, and the AWD systems don't even come close. The 4Runner? Weak V6 only, and no full-time AWD. The Chevy Yukon comes the closest with the 6.2L V8, and likewise, those are stoopid expensive (for what they are) because they are so rare and fit such a unique billing. Jeep was rated to tow 7400#.

Now look at the CX-5. It's absolutely cross-shoppable and each vehicle you compare it to has similar tow ratings, similar everything. It's just another fish in a vast ocean of CUV's.

That is why was able to trade my Jeep for KBB PP Retail AND bought my CX-5 at KBB PP Retail. Oh, my Jeep had 95K miles on it and was out from under 5/100 powertrain warranty...CX5 was still under 3/36 bumper to bumper, to boot!

Hertz bulk buys for cheap, they have to offload to bring in new models. So now supply is full for one to two years old rav4s. Few are sold at auction and hertz sells directly. So your Rav4 now competes with Hertz listings and they price it to sell. If you keep your rav4 for 10 years it will even out, assuming EVs don't ruin the demand for ICE in 10 years. But it hurts resale for 1-3 years.
In case of Mazda rental company does not get a huge discount so effect is not pronounced plus very few Mazda rentals.
Hyundai suffers from this issue as well.

Makes sense. Like I said before, functionally, the CX-5 is going to be my daily until I get something I enjoy driving, and then it will be relegated to "hail storm and icy roads" use. I plan on keeping it until it no-longer is safe/sound.
