New owner (maybe?) + Recall Notice!?

I missed that one today. Hopefully it is a trivial fix that can be rolled out quickly.

Hi all,

I was scheduled to pick up my new Silver 2016 CX-5 AWD GT in about 2 hours. I was super stoked until I saw this:

http://consumerist.com/2016/02/01/mazda-recalls-stop-sales-of-cx-5-vehicles-over-fuel-leak-concerns/

This sounds fishy to me.

The 2013 CX-5 is reportedly NOT included in the recall and yet I am not aware of any changes to the fuel system between 2013 and 2014. The 2013 has a non-return valve mounted inside the fuel tank that prevents fuel from flowing back out the filler neck. I assume the 2014-2016 use the same valve.

Mazda USA indicates a recall for the Mazda3. Possbile error in reporting?

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayRecallOwners.action

I punched in my VIN on our 2013 and the only recall showing is Mazda Recall #: 8915K for PCM reprogramming. Looks Like I need to get that done.

That page says as of 1/31... maybe it will be updated tomorrow? as the older Mazda 3 recall is only thing showing up right now....

Looks the same to me.

No idea what part of fuel line this is about but was just looking under mine and the area where #21 and #11 connect is on a curve near a frame piece that I could conceivably see being crushed in a square on rear collision. Just wild speculation though.

EDIT: It me closer to where #15 is located

Who knows... a hitch may even mitigate the issue

But if they didn't change the frame between 2013-2014 then the 2013's would be recalled as well.

Your diagrams above don't depict the fuel cut-off valve because it is part of the fuel tank. I wonder if the fuel tanks have different part #'s (2013 vs. 2014+).

Some erroneous info in this one as the CX-5's tank is not in the very back.

"The recall appears to echo safety concerns that led to a recall for millions of older Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee vehicles. Safety advocates claim the rear-mounted tanks are prone to rupture in rear-end collisions, either from tank puncture or separation of the filler tube. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles disputed the allegations but nonetheless agreed to recall the suspect vehicles.

Just left my dealership empty handed. They couldn't give me my car because of the recall. I have to wait a couple of more days....

It could be just an oversight so far as we have very limited info.

Fuel tank PN: KD3342110C

[2013]

[2014]

Could be a line change implemented between the two model years, same part just assembled differently. Or it may be one of those "inspect and fix if needed" recalls. The 3 had something like that where some tank components were installed incorrectly and some weren't during part of a spring production run.

Bummer! This is one of the first cx-5 recalls that I'm aware of.
