you should seriously look at Toyota 4Runner or a simplistic Toyota car like Corolla or Camry, i.e. size not an issue. 4Runner has and can go up to 500,000 miles easy peasy.

As far as reliability goes, I bought a brand new 2005 Mazda 6, back when they were still in partnership with Ford. Aside from Oil Changes, Tires, Air Filters and Brakes, the car was trouble free for the 9 years that we owned it (had about 95k when traded in).
In fact, we never even replaced the spark plugs. it never broke down, never disappointed us, and got 33 MPG.
That was my first Mazda, and that's one of the main reasons I am still a Mazda owner today.

UB: I understand you're pissed off. If my +1 month old car broke like yours, I would be too. But just for the sake of this message - I request you to let go your anger for 3 min. RELIABILITY is a big, big issue, I agree. So much so, although I had lot of money to buy in cash 5 years back I opted for a Toyota Corolla rather than anything else. I understand RELIABILITY was THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR for you. Then, why did you choose CX5 in the 1st. place? Nowhere I saw superb ratings for Mazda in general on this front. It took a hit during Ford ownership. Yes, its improving but its not 100%, nowhere near in comparison to many other companies. It looks like when you were buying it it was NOT the priority for you but now it is. Well, that happens.
I wanted other things than just reliability. For example, the fuel economy (failure to deliver on that front, though) was appealing to me, and you know what? I traded my Jeep in a fit of rage because of ITS reliability issues that morning. I Googled "AWD, 2013 or newer, 50K miles or less, 4-door" and bought the cheapest thing with the best ratings within 50 miles. I got $2K over KBB "Good" trade-in on my Jeep, and the CX5 for KBB Private Party, so I made the swap. I wanted the cheapest to own vehicle that met my needs for the next 2-3 years due to building a house early next year. I wanted a low note, and no maintenance issues to trip me up.
You realize yours is an exception, no one yet reported it. Yes - you might have pushed your car hardest as per you but at the same time there are others in this forum who also push their cars very hard, folks like Chris who tweak the car, etc., etc. Also, you have reported bad MPG. I suspect your AWD differential might have had an issue from start. THey said the solenoid is the issue. That wouldn't affect mileage and I don't see how "pushing" the car could cause that. The mud, water nailed it to the coffin There was no mud, and the "water" was a clear mountain stream flowing over the road below ground-clearance. better avoid puddles if you think that killed it.... Just give it a benefit of doubt maybe and wait for the new one? You are taking 1 MAJOR issue (I agree) and deciding the entire car is NOT RELIABLE. I just looked at Subaru Forrester's major forum thread. There are long threads on issues related to transmission. Frankly - I think every car has its weak point. At this point - if really RELIABILITY is the most important aspect for you - you should seriously look at Toyota 4Runner or a simplistic Toyota car like Corolla or Camry, i.e. size not an issue. This thread about how the AWD works has turned into Unobtanium's personal b****/moan thread because his car needed work under warranty one time. He should be happy, the AWD unit is a wear item and Mazda's giving him a brand new one for free. This is good but some people will never be happy. If he won the $1.5 billion lottery he would b**** that he had to pay $700 million in taxes leaving him a paltry $800 million. Life's a b****, we get it.
Tell us more about money, Mike. I still want to know why a multimillionaire like yourself is driving a cx5.
This thread is about (well, it WAS about) whether the CX-5 starts out in AWD. But cars are a depreciating asset, more expensive cars have more depreciation. And the CX-5 puts a smile on my face. I'm a fan of good engineering, not porky boats masquerading as a vehicle. I'll leave those over-weight, numb handling pimp-mobiles to people with self-esteem issues. In other words, I'm a happy guy! Some people seem to think their car is an extension of who they are. To me it's just another tool in the tool chest.
Are you done complaining about how unreliable CX-5's are yet? Something tells me no.
For the most part. Now I'm just curious what the plan is. Are you going to die and leave some very happy kids some day? Blow it all in Vegas when your health begins to decline? Or do you have an aviation hobby or something and cars don't really matter? I really want to know what you do with 7 figures a year, since you drive a base Mazda SUV. I have a feeling it's pretty awesome whatever it is, so how about some pics?
