Turn the Bose Centerpoint(tm) off.
I've done so and tweaked faders, balances... etc. Just the size and power of the center channel speaker overwhelms everything else up front. Thanks for the tip though!

You might want to double-check your settings then. I get good stereo separation from mine and can't perceive any sound coming from the center (unless I put my ear next to it). But it is from a MY 2013.

Some audio sources will grey it out too.
You mean like Pandora and the like? Still gray/grey with Pandora....(dunno) (BTW - I was curious which was correct: 'gray' or 'grey'. Apparently 'gray' is the American version of the British 'grey'. Never to old to learn something new - (yes))

I'm glad someone finally mentioned this for the Bose system on CX-5. Surround sound system may be good for movies watching but not good for music listening unless you put more effort into it. Bose Centerpoint 2 surround sound system on CX-5 is poorly designed for music. I doubt you can weaken the strong front center channel for the taste by turning off the Centerpoint as Centerpoint 2 uses a Bose algorithm to analyze the stereo signal and convert it into multiple channels. With Centerpoint off, the front center speaker still has output as the whole system just became a basic surround sound system. Without front directional tweeters and rear sub-woofer, 9 mid-range paper-cone speaker Bose system on CX-5 simply is a mediocre system for music. If you see this Bose Centerpoint 16-speaker surround sound system available on 2015 Cadillac Escalade with
- Five Twiddler speakers placed across the forward cabin.
- Four 1-inch tweeters -- one in each mirror patch and one in each rear door -- for precise high-frequency reproduction.
- Two 5.25-inch speakers placed in each rear door to accurately reproduce a wide range of frequencies.
- Two 2.5-inch Twiddler speakers, one in each D-pillar, adding musical depth for rear-seat passengers.
- Multiple bass sources for powerful low-note performance, including two 6x9-inch woofers -- one in each front door -- and a 5.25-inch Richbass woofer housed in a 10-liter customized enclosure. Bose engineers designed the enclosure to fit under the front-center console to avoid infringing on the Escalades cargo and cabin space.
Just found out even an older Mazda3 GT came with a sub-woofer enclosure snug fitted in the spare tire:
It sounds like you don't even have the Bose system or you would not be talking from your butt.
Turning the Centerpoint feature to OFF definitely weakens the strong front center channel. The difference is night and day. That's why I suggested it.
You are comparing the audio system of a Mazda CUV to a full sized Cadillac? A Cadillac that with no options, completely stripped down costs more than double the price of a fully loaded and optioned Mazda CX-5?

Well I have a 2016 with the Bose system and I know overall volume decreases when Centerpoint is turned off, and spatial blurring decreases but the center speaker does not decrease in volume any more than the other speakers and the difference isn't "night and day".
If anyone is talking from their butt it's not yrwei32.

Of course our 2016 CX-5 GT AWD has Bose Centerpoint 2 surround sound system! Are you suggesting again Mazda uses different grade of same part for the CX-5 and ours and IBJammin's unfortunately have inferior grade of Bose system installed?
IBJammin in his reply has already said he'd tried to turn Centerpoint off and it didn't work! At least in his taste the front center speaker overwhelms everything else up front no matter how he made adjustment. I too feel the front center mid-range speaker is a bit too strong when I listen to the music, especially without front directional twitters for higher frequencies and sub-woofer for low frequency.

I didn't compare but was showing how good a Bose system can be like the one in Cadillac Escalade which has four twitters, two woofers and a sub-woofer. But you conveniently ignored the spare tire sub-woofer I mentioned in the older Mazda3! And why didn't you say I was comparing CX-5 Bose system to older and cheaper Mazda3 which is not fair? Any audio system without twitters and woofers is an inferior audio system for music listening no matter what as you simply can't achieve ideal 20Hz~20KHz frequency range!
I think people can express their opinion freely and don't get offensive on the negative statements to the CX-5 as we all know CX-5 is not perfect (may be except yours)!
Even compared to the meager stock system of my 2006 Honda Element it's much less able to produce a stereo image. That was 7 drivers, 4 in the doors, 2 tweeters in the front pillars, and a subwoofer in the center front console. I'm not suggesting that the Bose System is terrible sounding. It's pleasant, cabin filling, and carries some decent punch for a stock system. But it is center heavy no matter how you adjust it. It's indicative of the home theatre/portable Bluetooth speaker trend that we see in modern day listening and streaming habits. It's still great entertainment but for a stereo image buff like me it can take a little getting used to. Like I said if I just turn off that need in my head and relax its fun enough going down the road. And the handling of the car more than makes up for any perceived issues with the sound system.

Good deal. I have the "base" system in mine I guess, and it's pretty decent. Like you said, I'm no Audiophile, but I can tell that it's not in the same league as the sound system that was in my 2010 Jeep. However, it's also better than what was in my Z06 and what was in my 370Z, and I had BOSE in my 370Z. For the vehicle it's in, I agree, it's plenty nice. The Bose being better is impressive, at this price point.
