Some issues with my new MS3

Hi there.

I've just bought a 07' mazdaspeed 3 and I have detected two weird behaviors.

1. Whenever I start the engine it makes a very short noise or rattle (about half a second). It seems the valves knocking till the oil reaches.

As I have read before, it seems to be some common issue in this engine but I haven't figured out yet how to fix it....

2. I have 40k miles or 60k km in my MS3. When I press the clutch the engine noise becomes much more silent.

The gearbox runs OK for me but there is that sound which scares me since it seems a clutch flywheel issue.

Here is a video where it shows exactly my problem. Remember, I only have 40k ...

Thanks in advance.

The noise you hear that diminishes or goes away when you depress the clutch pedal is the clutch throw out bearing. This is normal. To keep these cars light there is almost no soundproofing under the hood or anywhere else. Mine has done this from day one. I now have 111,000 miles on the car. I am the original and only owner.

The noise you hear on start up is the VVT most likely; next time you do a cold start, have someone listen (or you listen) right over the oil cap for the a rattling/timing chain scraping on the valve cover. You can also open the oil cap up (while the car isn't on) and see how tight the timing chain is. If it's loosey goosey, its time to get your VVT updated to the fixed version. It's not a matter of if it will go out and blast your pistons into your valves, it's when if this recall has not been performed by the previous owner.
