black cloth interior too hot?

Black interior with leather not an issue for me...but WA state isn't on the extreme side unless you dwell in the Tri-Cities area of the state during the summer.

I grew up in Texas (AKA furnace) owning a number of cars. The hottest had a black interior and yellow/white exterior. Had a black car with light gray interior and it was much cooler. The interior color is far more of a factor than the exterior color. A black interior collects heat and the windows act like a hot house.
Agreed here! No black interior in Texas ... but we had no choice but to have one because we want Sonic Silver which won't show dirt (and I don't need to wash car very often)! (bang)

That's the problem for us. The smell is horrible. Chemicals and carrion. It stays with all its potency for years.

Wow, I have heard many arguments against leather interior, but that it smells horribly of chemicals is a first.

I gotta agree, leather stinks to me too.

I disagree. My leather seats and steering wheel smell great! I use Lexol and Voodoo leather cleaners/conditioners. Not only do they smells great, they're soft to the touch [emoji106]

In northern VA it was hard to find a new CX-5 with sand colored interior. I prefer the lighter color due to the perception that black colored interior absorbs more heat. Whether that's true or not nowadays, I'm not really sure. We finally found a 2016 CX-5 Touring in Titanium Flash Mica with Sand interior and love it.

We're not yet in the heat of summer here in Oregon, but our 2016 Touring in Sonic Silver has been sitting in full sun on a day in the mid-80's. Despite our reputation here for "rain all the time," it doesn't, and on a day with full sun a car can really bake. I noticed the heat of the black upholstery when I sat down, but it wasn't even close to "scorching." Once the AC was on all was comfortable.

We have a Sonic Silver with black interior (been forced into it by Mazda) too. Yeah 80's is not bad. But wait until we have 100F+ almost everyday in our Texas summer! Right now the temperature may be comfortable at 66F, but we have severe thunderstorm warning with possibility of hail and tornado going on ... (boom05)

The leather steering wheel is way more luxurious than the vinyl upholstry. The vinyl feels like a dog chew toy. This was a big factor for me. The way the leather steering wheel feels in your hands gives a Yes factor. The vinyl felt like I was driving a cheap car and will give that impression to whoever else you let drive your car.

For the seats. Ya it gets hot. Does it burn you? Not even close. Is it tolerable? Yes. Is clothe better than leather? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Is clothe better to clean? When your interior starts to get dirty and dusty, give your seats a good smack on the cushion and watch all the dust particles fly in the air. Leather you buy the appropriate leather seat cleaner and its brand new.

"Black interior too hot" is a myth. In the heat of summer, any and all colored interiors are uncomfortably hot until the A/C does its cooling work.
