What have you done to your MSP today?

Was removing the turbo on 1574 to check the wastegate flap and the intake had a bunch of oil in it. It was fresh looking oil, and I didn't see much residue in the hot pipe. I was lucky though and was able to move the wastegate flapper from the outside and didn't have to pull the turbo. I guess it just became stuck, I bet it will stick again but here's to hoping it lasts for me. I'm just glad I didn't have to remove the turbo, and i'm glad its holding a steady 6-7psi now. I can tell the turbo has more lag than my other MSP, most of it is likely the boost controller and the rest is probably in the tune. Can't wait to get the FTC installed and turn the boost up, however now I'm thinking I need to shop around for a turbo.
I've got a low miles disco potato that I'd be willing to sell you.

I've been using Bosch filters almost exclusively for 5 or 6 years now, but had two Purolator filters I've had forever and used them for the MSP and Rx8s last oil services. I'm going to be changing the oil and filter in the 8, Accord and (probably) the MSP this weekend and was curious on your personal preference of filter brand and, also, why you use that filter. The MSP is noticeably louder on cold start-up, but also spikes higher on cold-start than it has prior to my oil and filter change a couple of weeks ago when I repaired the oil pan. I will probably just go back with a Bosch 3300, but I was curious as to what all of you are running.
I just use a Purolator PureOne filter one size bigger I think it ends in 10 instead of 12 just for a little extra filter surface area.

I put K&N or Mobil1 (they are the same), for piece of mind and because I want the best for the blood of the engine :)

Pretty sure once you add all the turbo components the weight advantage ia gone. Sure you don't have that big ass rear glass, but extra metal up high increases rollcenter ect. Turbo prob adds a minimum 100lbs all said and done.

Yes and no. Yes they are both manufactured by Champion. No, they aren't the same. The Mobile1 has a tougher filter element (source below). Personally I used Mobile1 and Purolator One filters. Depends which is on sale at the local shops. I will never buy K&N anything. The air filters let through more particulates than they filter.

Thats true. I guess I was comparing it to the MSP not the sedan :P

I still prefer the looks of the hatch over the sedan though........sometimes. Hehe, can't decide if I should keep my P5 or the MSP. Only 1 can stay, MSP is rusty everywhere, P5 is rusty on a small section of the rails and am a bit attached to it.

OEM is all I use, best filter for any car.

I am interested pending price, I have a friend locally with a turbo I can get for next to nothing but it's a T25.

Turbo worked for about 5 minutes yesterday then went back to no boost. I guess the flap is stuck again, guess I have to pull it after all. Contemplating installing a different turbo altogether instead of just fixing the flap.

I thought it was Circuit's, but wasn't sure. Thanks Gabi. I've been watching his build, not sure why that didn't cross my mind. You can even see the Jetta in one of the pictures on his thread too. haha.

As for filters I use(d) Fram for my MSP. I just got a Napa Gold for the TDI, but that was because it was on sale and I couldn't find it at any of the other places I went. I like the Fram because it's name brand (not that that really has any value to it, haha), and it has the rubber grip end thing for easy removal and replacement. I ran Mobil 1 full synthetic for oil though, so I had to run the/a synthetic filter.

Got the turbo off of 1574 today and removed the manifold and S pipe. (The S pipes are tiny inside, I need to get a DP) There was more oil inside the hot pipe when I removed it this time so I'm assuming this turbo is bad. Definitely not going to put it back on the car spewing oil. So it is down again until I get another turbo for it which probably won't be for long, I will likely swap my friend's old turbo on as I don't really have the funds to splurge for an upgrade. And the WG flap didn't back out very much at all but it was enough for the flap to hit the side of the housing and not seal.

Shade tree mechanic work going on here

Now that I am looking into it I may just buy a new seal for the compressor housing and fix the wastegate flap on the stock turbo, I don't want to keep removing the turbo but I think it may be worth a shot. I was able to hit boost in it so I know it works but I am afraid the internal seals are leaking not just the O ring on the compressor housing. Turbine housing looks fine, no leaks

Well, transmission number four is done. Third gear again. Lol

So I've finally come to terms with the fact that I bought a pos shell. With The amount of rust and the severity on important places like the frame, it's not worth trying to fix it. :( I'm better off buying a rust free running msp from the south. So that's the plan. I'm gonna save up as much money as possible and at the end of the summer go to Florida and buy one.

So if any of u guys need some stuff from a spicy msp let me know.
