6 hanging with the 5's
Well seeing as more and more likely my car being totaled :( I need to shop again. It's not something I really had in mind. I'd like to get another Mazda5, but it would be another 1st gen, and knowing what I do now, it means having to, more then likely, change bushings and other suspension components. So I've been looking at other cars and came around to this.

Volvo V70 R AWD

This thing is immaculate, hell I couldn't even get my car this clean looking. Not only that, but such low miles, less the 50k, that comes out to less then 4k per year. Where the hell was this car kept in? A museum? BUT, I don't know much about Volvos, and especially the AWD systems. Anyone know anything? Just wanted to share too.

I have a V70 XC with almost 200K on it - the thing is amazing. Its rock solid and never needs anything - its still on the stock turbo despite the mileage. There are two potential trouble areas that I know of. The bearing on the rear driveshaft can fail and it can get expensive and tough to find. The other issue is if the tires are not equally inflated and of the same diameter the center diff will get cooked pretty quickly.

I've had mine for 40k miles. I freshened up the suspension and brakes when I bough it but other than oil changes and tire rotations I've hardly touched it since. Its comfortable, quiet, solid, safe, and can hold a ton of stuff. (I'm fairly certain Volvo manufactured the Tardis and snuck some bigger on the inside technology into their wagons) If the price is right and you enjoy the way it drives, it'll be a fantastic car for a really long time.

I have always liked these wagons too. What a nice looking example, but maybe just a tad high on the BUY IT NOW price. But if you wanted one of these cars, I think you could look for a good year or two and never find one as nice as this...

I also love those cars, and wagons in general. I would love to compile a list of luxury wagon alternatives to the 5 for my next purchase. The older Audi S4 Avant looks really nice, but I don't know much about them.

Another car that caught my attention is Acura TSX Sport Wagon. I think it looks great, even better then the sedan. I love the Vortex Blue pearl color, but it's only a 4cyl with 201hp and it weighs more then the Mazda5. Plus it needs premium petrol. If I'm going to spend extra on premium I expect to have more then 200 pony's.

I'm more scared of German cars. I've seen lots of Jetta SportWagons TDI's available, but each time I see subject on those cars, you got guys saying they've had no problems with them for 200k and others have electrical and fit issues in less then 30k miles. I can't take that chance with them.

My friend and I done Valet for a bit. Seems like every out of warranty VW that arrives has a check engine light.

I saw one on the road and it looks great, it is hard to believe they don't make them anymore. The other Acura that caught my attention is the ZDX. It looked nice in person, the funny thing is I don't care for the Honda Crosstour that it is based off of. The prices are higher than the TSX wagon though. That picture you have there of the TSX is sweet.

You are helping to quell my German car lust. I guess they are like that beautiful woman who turns out to be a head case. One more wagon on the pricey but possibly dependable side would be a Cadillac CTS wagon. IF you have super deep pockets they also made a CTS V wagon.

Honda puts the same 2.4L VTEC in the Acura TSX as it does in the Accord, but it raises the engine redline and ups the compression a bit to bump it up to 201hp from 180hp. For all that increased compression you need higher octane gas.

Boost + Hondata = happy K24

I've been eyeballing the is300 sportcross as my next surfmobile. Kinda looks like the best looking wagon on the road (P5) but it's got more power, is RWD and is a Lexus.

You can find a clean one for between 7 and 10k.

RALLYMAN

I had a IS Sportcross pictured above. Put 150k miles on it ( bought it new), it guzzled gas. I am a wagon.hatch lover. Since then I have had Genpu Mazdaspeed3, Lexus CT200h, and obviously the Mazda5.

I just sold the Lexus, and replaced it with a TSX Wagon last year.

Even though TSX wagon might weight more etc doesn't have any power, as someone who has the TSX wagon AND the Mazda5 in the garage together, the TSX wagon is more peppy, refined, and an amazing car. We use it when the inlaws aren't in town (that is what Mazda5) is for.

Test drive it. Mine has been bulletproof.

Our recent roadtrip on our TSX wagon at 80mph with 4 people, I got 32mpg. Also it gets over 600miles on the tank. I never got over 30mpg on our Mazda5 mostly 28mpg.

Same roatrips

Nice, thanks everyone for chiming in. I talked with the second owner of the wagon, but said stay away since they are very expensive to maintain. I'd like the TSX wagon, but I believe I'll be going for a sedan this time. When we finally purchase I'll post pictures of what we got.

Hey Rallyman! Why not this and stay with a Mazda?

I have always like it, but I'm looking for something newer now.

Same with the IS, I need a newer vehicle and although I'd like to have the power, my priorities have changed. Need it to be economical with petrol too.

As much as I do like it, it's the rear leg room that is important to me. I usually have the car packed with 4 adults and my daughter with her car seat for 1 to 3 hours. The specs show that it will be cramped compared to some of the sedans I've been looking at.

DAMN PEOPLE BUYING SUV'S AND WAGONS ARE LEFT OUT IN THE COLD!!!!!!

Rallyman please, please, please do not buy a sedan! Buy a wagon, buy a van, buy an SUV, heck buy a small hatchback but you're going to regret buying a sedan. "Tailgates and Hatches have bigger asses" and what guy doesn't love a big booty?! :)
