Best aftermarket Remote Start for CX-5

Takeover looks like it might dependent on which bypass is used when installing the remote start. The OEM unit doesn't require a bypass since....welll....it's designed by mazda and likely uses the vehicle bus.

The EVO-ALL by Fortin looks to have a take over regiment but I wasn't able to find one with any other manufacture. Hopefully the other's will develop the same thing and firmware can be updated.

The Fortin EVO-ALL and the EVO-ONE will also shut down the vehicle as soon as a door is opened. It looks like only the old solution from ADS will allow key takeover, but it requires the loss of a functioning key.

You sure of this? Maybe a new firmware version has allowed for takeover? The newest data sheet from Fortin shows a takeover sequence.

If you look at the install guide sheets for both products, the last page shows that the vehicle will shut down after a door is opened. That is at least for the latest published firmware. Not sure if they are working on a solution for takeover or not. They are the only company right now that has figured out how to have their module work as a stand alone remote start to allow the factory FOB to activate the remote start saving the cost of having to buy a remote start system.

Oh and just to clarify, I am talking about the Push start CX-5. You could do takeover on the key start.

Looks like Fortin's guide sheet was updated on the 7th. There is a takeover available on the EVO-ALL if you burn a key, but if you use their keyless option you'll have to deal with the engine dying.

I'm willing to deal with that to not have to buy an extra key.

My install is scheduled for 2/7, but I'm not having the Fortin installed. I went with the Compustar RSG6-al from Bestbuy. The Blade-al bypass learns as well and does not burn a fob in your dash.

I'm also going to be adding ezgo for proximity lock/unlock and a Drone mobile unit for mobile starting.

Every CX-5 has a smart key unless there are non-PTS models out there I'm not aware of. Some vehicles have Advance Keyless Entry, though. Doesn't matter in the case of the remote start. Bypasses are available from several companies that do not require you to wire in a FOB.

I'm not sure if the advance keyless features will work with the vehicle started though.

One keys is needed for programing, but no keys are required for the install. The bypass reads the key signal and then goes back to the installers computer to be decrypted and programmed. It's quite awesome the reverse engineering these companies pull off.

So, anybody could describe what exactly is needed to have one installed and to explain how it works exactly? Maybe in the How to section? Which type of key is used and so on.

This isn't really a DIY project as the key programing requires access to the manufactures flash software and of course only professional installers have access. It's a DIY job if you don't mind losing a key, but it's something you really need to research.

i've been reading up for the last two weeks and I still do not feel 100% comfortable doing it my self. It's worth the extra $100.

Not DIY, just which brand/model works with our cars, which extra module needed, which key(regular/advance), if a key needed for the install, etc.

Any remote start unit should work. I went with the Compustar RSG6-al which includes the 7200s brain, blade-al programable bypass card, and a typical 4 button 1-way remote. Any viper or DEI product will work as well provided you combine them with the proper bypass. The EVO-ALL from Fortin seems to be a popular bypass for non-blade systems. I believe the Fortin might also allow for remote starting through the factory fob.

Hello im new to cx5 just bought a 2013 cx5 sport looking for anyone has installed fortin evo all i plan on buying and getting the programmer and install myself. i have done remote starts in the past but never had a smart key system . any info would help thanks all

Well two thumbs up for Compustar. Yesterday I had a CM7200 and 1 way remote kit installed from Best Buy. I also had Drone Mobile and EZGO added. Here's my mini review.

Remote Starting: It works as promised. Press the key button for 2 seconds and boom the car starts and runs for 15 min. You can increase this if you want. The factory fob will not unlock the car at this point so you are forced to use the Compustar FOB. This is not a big deal for me as I had the EZgo accessory installed. More on this later.

Drone Mobile: This works as promised too. It takes a few seconds (Damn Verizon cell service!), but starts, unlocks and locks the car from my phone. This is extremely helpful when I'm at work as my desk is out of the 1000ft range. If you have one of these compustar units installed and it doesn't come with Drone, add it you self. It's a simple plug, play, and register on you phone setup. Bestbuy wanted $40 to install this, but I talked them out of it.

EZGO: This is by far the main reason I wanted to go Compustar. I have a 2014 touring and did not spring for the model above with advanced keyless, but I really wanted proximity unlock. Well know when I get in range of the car (pretty damn close to it) the car automatically unlocks. Then when I'm out of range the car locks automatically. This is extremely convienent since the factory fob disables when the engine is running.

Issues: Not many. It seems that the Mazda requires a double pulse to unlock all doors. Otherwise Drivers priority unlock is standard. This is easily solved by programing the double pulse unlock option on the compustar. Problem solved.

I also had a minor parking light issue, which I'm still trying to figure out. I usually keep my headlights on at night and let the car turn them off after 30second, but apparently our BCMs cut power to the lights to the point where the keyless unit can't power them up. This is solved by turning off the switch. Not the biggest deal, but I'm currently investigating ways around it.

The remote start kit was $299 at Bestbuy. I was able to pick up the Drone online for $130 and the EZgo for $60 and I'd recommend the entire thing. Installation was all included in the $299 from Bestbuy. They did a great job as well, besides being a little unfriendly. But be your own advocate and engage in a conversation with them first to ensure they know what they are doing. Luckily in the NJ area the installers are fairly knowledgable.

I actually had the Fortin Evo All installed in my 2014 CX-5 Touring, and I love it. It is so nice being able to use my OEM fob to start the car just by pressing the lock button 3 times. Best part was I still got to keep both of my fobs. Couldnt be happier!

You have an alarm as well(which one?), or only remote start?
