New mirrors for 2015?

I, too, like it. My 2015 (manufactured 01/14) has old style mirrors (or is it current?). These newer style's signals appears to be able to be seen from the front view, a feature I wish mine had. Looks like I can retrofit these on if I chose to, however.

Looks like Sport models? No Advanced Keyless.

I agree-those definitely look zooter then the ones on my new 2015 touring.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Was looking to pull the trigger on the 2015 CX5 but when I saw these new style mirrors, I decided to wait. Does anyone in Canada have these mirrors yet or is it just a US thing?

I wonder if they would not shake. Mine did shake, mostly with wind gusts. It is now fixed, still not absolutely stable, but significantly better.
Can potential buyers taking test drives verify and post back to the thread?

Otherwise, if not for potential improved rigidity, to me it seems like such a minor difference which would not have swayed me to do anything different. However, I would be tempted to wait for a 2015 if only 2014/2014.5 were available, especially for possible minor improvements/fixes which could potentially save me headaches and trips to the dealer later.

Have any of you noticed that there are 63 (now 64!) posts here on a minor design change in outside mirrors?!

Make that 65, wonderful, lol. And the mirrors are a bit more functional and stylish too.

Note: IMO, since the CX-5 has only a few legitimate problems, much attention is given to trivial things like mirrors maybe.

Small touches like that are what used to keep cars unique by model year, a lost art in modern design.

Yes, and fortunately the CX-5 is such a good exterior design with excellent styling in this class of vehicle, so major "plastic surgery" or big changes to styling are not necessary.

Example of ugly vehicle getting mid-generation makeovers (due to poor styling at launch) is the current Mercedes E-class. Since it's 2010 launch, numerous front clips, rear clips, non-pontoon rear fenders, etc have been attempted by Mercedes. It's going to take more than new mirrors to make it look good.

Another ugly example is new Jeep Cherokee. I'll bet they implement a new front clip (grill/bumper/valence/lights) well before the redesign of this thing. Side of body and beltline could use help too, but that will have to wait until redesign. It will take more than new mirrors to make it look good.

I was looking at a new Cherokee when comparing SUVS to buy. It was about $10k more than a CX-5 GT and looks like the bigger FROG brother to the Nissan Juke. And now that's 68 posts about mirrors. I'm always missing out on 69...

69!! That's me! My number. Year I graduated HS and soloed a Piper Cherokee 140 - the same day Neil Armstrong soloed on Tranquility Base.

And yes, I have the new style mirror. A coworker of mine has the 2013 CX-5. The only exterior difference are the mirrors.

the new jeep has MUCH bigger problems than design (which i like). trannys needing replacing, computers bad and a whole lot of other serious immoblizing problems. i was considering one, but after doing research it was a definite no-go.

Good to know, then they can put a new front clip on to replace ugly one and revise the trannys and computers too, mid-generation.

Just a little over a month since I soloed a symphony 160 :). The same day (April 30) Christopher Harris b.1942, English actor and director died according to wiki. Odd. Weve got the same first and last....and we got our wings on the same day :)

I'm with you on that. (scratch)

Only my drivers side mirror shakes a little at highway speeds but honestly I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read about it on this forum at least 86 times. (whistle) Same goes for the very minor style change.

I just wanted to know if they fixed the mirror shake once and for all. (shady)

I just found this forum as I was searching for this mirror issue - I just got a new 2015 Mazda6 Grand Touring and the driver's side mirror vibrates quite a bit (just under 100 miles driven now) - the passenger side one is not as bad...

I like the new style but I think the turn signal lenses are prone to cracking from rocks.
Or if you accidentally hit something(side of garage door, other car mirror, etc)

I've discovered the hard way that the pivots on the mirrors are quite stiff-- maybe they tightened them up as a running change to address mirror shake? At any rate there's a telephone pole right on the curb where I typically park. In my old Jetta wagon I would occasionally clip that pole with my mirror when I was getting situated-- it's a very narrow street and parking as close to the curb as possible is a general courtesy. With the Jetta the mirror would just rotate inward without much fuss, maybe a little scuff to the outer casing (I had had that car long enough where "little scuffs" didn't make my head explode).

But I recently did the same thing with the CX-5-- just a little too tight on the maneuver (I haven't been driving this car long enough to have developed that second sense about where all the edges are)-- and the mirror might as well have been welded in place. No give whatsoever, and it got trashed. Sat there in my car for a few minutes screaming ****! MOTHERFUCKER! GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKER FUCKITY **** ME ****! Then I checked the condition and had smashed trim, cracked housing, and a smashed mirror. All the internals (mirror motor and mount, turn signal bulb, housing and connections, lane departure warning) were OK, but the body parts were toast.

Fortunately just a $100 deductible on the insurance, because the part had to be ordered as an entire unit and it ran close to $500 for the work to replace it (and thankfully the housing was available prepainted in Meteor Gray Mica, since from what I've read a body shop was going to have a tough time getting a good match in house). I had looked around online for parts, and there was no way I was going to be able to do the work myself (no way to get a prepainted Mica Gray piece, for one thing).

At any rate, be aware that those mirrors are not going to give you much margin of error if you bump anything. I've worked mine back and forth some just to break them in a bit and get a little more give.

For future reference, you can order all the pieces yourself from multiple online places like Jim Ellis Mazda and onlinemazdaparts.com. The whole mirror assembly is around $140, glass is $80, and a new pre-painted cover is $40. It's surprisingly easy to replace the whole thing yourself, just pop off the interior door cover, undo one bolt and unsnap a clip and the whole assembly comes out.
