Connecting via Bluetooth - Contact List Problem

Hi - whenever I connect my phone in the car using Bluetooth after reconnecting the contact list has to be downloaded again which takes a few minutes each time - this happens on my iPhone and my Blackberry so it is not device specific. Any tips on how to make this stop?

Never seen it happen. Only problem I've seen is Android would only download a certain random list of names. Turns out it was a Bluetooth protocol issue, and an app fixed it.

I have the same problem here in France with a CX-5 received 1 month ago. Mazda will change my ND1 (the radio) soon...

Have you found a solution to this? Just got my CX5 this week and it does it too every time it pairs with my iPhone 4S.

So no one else is having this problem? Every time I connect my iPhone 4s it spends a minute synchronizing. If I disable synchronization on my mobile then the contact list is not available in the car. Seems liike the contact list is not stored in the car stereo and is downloaded every time. Is this normal behaviour?

I do not think it is normal behavior and I am using a BB10 device and I have some other devices I can use like an Iphone 5s - will try it out over this week. For me it is important that I have my contacts available so I can call them by talking to the car (which in 80% of the time does not work properly..). Let's face it folks, the car drives fine, it has a lot of good things going for it but the head unit is just not en par with the rest of the car (and Mazda needs to be made aware of this over and over again).

Which app fixed this problem? I have a HTC One, and it is missing a lot of contacts. Also it takes 30 seconds to a minute every time I turn on the car because the bluetooth contacts synching.

Edit: Solution to fixing it without purchasing any apps was to remove the "groups" information from my google contacts. After that I can now see my wife's name in the contacts list.

I now switched to a Galaxy Note 3, and I don't have any problems seeings the contacts.

Android app is Bluetooth-Phonebook. Worked for me with my Samsung phone...

It would be quite nice of you if you can check out the iphone 5s for me. Mine (iPhone 4S) syncs every time I switch on my car and takes up to a minute to do so. My wife's Merc stores the contact list and syncs it only if asked to do so. My intention here is not to criticise. Just want to know if this is the same for others in case of the CX5. It is a bit of a nuisance having to wait for it to sync every time you switch the car on especially if you intend playing music stored on your iphone via Bluetooth. This is because you can't start to play BT music before the sync is over.

Today I tried my brother's android phone and same result. It will download the contact list as soon as you disconnect and reconnect the BT connection either by switching off the car or else by switching off BT on the mobile. What I realised is that if you are quick enough and press the cancel button as soon as it says downloading phonebook it stops the download and the contact list is still available. This is driving me nuts. Already told the dealer about it who actually agreed that this would annoy him too and told me to take it over for inspection.

My iPhone 4S syncs each time too, but it's done in under 10 seconds. I have maybe 100-150 contacts. How many do you have? Maybe that's the problem?

I have 97 contacts and download takes much more than 10 secs. I have multiple numbers for most contacts. Wonder if that might be causing some problems.

I have contacted Mazda Handsfree support by sending them an email and to my great surprise this is the reply I got:
Dear Mr. Cassar,

Thank you for your request.

The automatic download of the phonebook when connecting the phone is a specification of the Handsfree system.

Unfortunately this feature can not be deactivated.

We apologize for the unsatisfying response.

If you have any further question, do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards

So it seems like everybody's head unit should be behaving like mine. I am at a loss now about what I should do. Was going to take my car to dealer tomorrow to have the head unit checked but after receiving such a reply from Mazda Handsfree support I doubt he can do anything at all.

In the UK the phone book is downloaded after pairing, its optional.
From that I take it that the phone book is stored in the head unit.

It is slow to connect and ready the phone on starting the car, but I take that to be the slow electronics in the head unit, probably a processor?

Only problem I have with my HTC wildfire is playing via BT, for some reason the music starts to play then immediately cuts off, so I have to bring the screen up and press play, they may be a better way but I haven't found one yet.

I get the impression that a car doesn't exist that has a problem free head unit, my last car the phone book would only download manually, one at a time!

I wonder if your dealership would let you try it on another car? Or maybe just go for a test drive (without a salesperson) and pair/sync. I'd think you'd be fine as long as you unpair and delete your phone from the list on the car when you're done.

I went to the dealer last week and asked him to try and connect to the BT of another car and see if the same thing happens but he said that this is not possible and would not let me. Instead he booked my car for inspection for next Wednesday. However now I am 100% sure that there is no fault with my car and that this a normal stupid feature of the software version installed in the headunit. I happen to be following threads about the same problem in the Italian forum, were there are a couple of owners having the same problem. One of them has been to his dealer this week, who checked with Mazda EU about the problem and possible solutions. However the reply he got was that this is a normal feature of the new software. The previous version behaved differently and downloaded the phonebook only the first time. The latest version will download all the phonebook every time you reconnect the BT. So if any of you have a CX5 produced during the last months of 2013, rest assured that they have the same problem. I just wonder how there are not a lot reporting it here until now.
