Discount tire direct are having special rebate for both of this but it expired 08/26/13
Total $175 rebate for General G Max-AS 03 and $165 for Yokohama Avid Envigor.

I need advice quick between the two. Looking mainly at size 215/50R17.
This is primary my wife car but this is also our main family vehicle. The car have KONI Sport strut, shock and TriPoint Engineering 32mm RSB.

Being mainly family vehicle I am not looking for all out performance tires but more for a good balance between comfort, grip and long life.
The G Max-AS 03 seems to be louder according to Tire rack
The Avid Envigor seem very good compromise but people are complaining about tread live that does not live even close to the advertised 60K.

Cost out the door after rebate, install and 6.75% local tax are:
G Max-AS 03 $363.02 or $ 419.60 with road hazard
Avid Envigor $501.12 or $573.71 with road hazard

Anybody have experience with any of these tires?

Last year I bought a new set of G Max AS 03's for our Subaru. The tire size is 205/55/16
I have no complaints, I quite like them. Plenty of grip in the dry AND wet, that was one of the things I liked when researching. I don't find them loud.

I also like the idea that these are (or at least were last year when I bought them) made in the USA. Most of the other tires I was looking at were made offshore somewhere. I always try to buy North American whenever possible.

Not much of a review, but thats my .02 cents... lol

NOTE: IIRC, most of the other size AS 03's were actually made overseas. Very few sizes were made in the States..

I have a lot of experience with the Yokohama Avid Envigor. I've had them on 3 different vehicles and I'd highly recommend them. They really do have a long tread life and run quietly on the road. The handling is great with them too, especially in the wet. I think with your upgraded suspension bits these tires will be great.

I been researching a bit more and it seems the G Max-AS 03 are much better on snow. The Avid Envigor are scary on snow and ice. The W speed rated on Avid Envigor are not highly rated but the size I a looking at are V rated so thread live should not be a concern.

I have dedicated Dunlop winter tires for winter so snow traction are not a big concern.

Some interesting fact:
OEM Toyo Proxess A18 weight 23 Lbs
General G Max AS 03 weight 21 Lbs in 205/50R17 and 215/50R17, and both can be made in Brazil or Mexico
Yokohama Avid Envigor weight 25 Lbs in 205/50R17 and made in US or Japan or 26 Lbs size for 215/50R17 made in US only

Cost per 1000 miles are about $9.07 for the G Max AS 03 if it last full 45 K
Cost per 1000 miles are about $8.35 for the Avid Envigor it it last full 60 K
All warranty are down to 2/32", while I would always replace it when it goes down to 4/32"
Which actually going to cost me about $12.01 per 1000 miles for the G Max AS-03 and $10.74 for the Avid Envigor

Geez I am geek. I need to stop over thinking this. I will pull the trigger tomorrow and I think I can't be wrong with either one.
The lower weight of the G Max AS 03 interest me more since the 5 are under powered anyway.

I suppose you could call this one last plug for the Yokohamas. I would argue that the extra weight per tire that you noted in your last post comes from thicker tread compound and/or thicker sidewalls. Either of these would contribute to a quieter ride or better handling.

+1
I've come to this conclusion as well. Keep in mind the tires will lose weight too!

Well I order the G Max AS 03 but then cancel it since they are not in stock. I quick look at their webpage it show the rebate have been extended.

I am now looking between Nitto Motivo and Yokohama Avid Envigor. I will decide in a few days.

Well end up buying Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season plus. I normally would never buy grand touring all season but the rating are really good for such a new tire. They just been released late last year and already a lot of rave review on it.

Its expensive but might be cheaper for this car due to 70 K Mile tread wear warranty. The $150 rebate are only for today and tomorrow so I pay it today and would be installing it next week or even next spring since I have separate set of winter tire.

can you tell us what rebate(s) you are seeing? How much did the tires alone come out too? This was my top pick too but bc the tire is so new and after seeing TireRack's review, it swayed me towards sticking with the Conti PureContact. I do think the P7 suite my needs best, all things considered. Cost is a big factor.

The total rebate is $220 if you have discount tire car care one card and it expired Today Saturday 09/31/13. You have to pay today but does not have to get it installed today and if you are previous customer they let you pay it by phone.

Total with road hazard warranty,TPMS rebuild cost, 6.75% local tax before rebate is $775.05. With out road hazard its $685.33
BTW I went back to original size since the 215 are much more expensive. This is also only for H speed rating tire. The V which are also available are a lot more expensive.

That big $220 rebate makes it really cheap with the promised thread life, all season performance and low rolling resistance.

thanks! I know about the $70 Pirelli P7 and $30 card care. It is strange I cannot get the $100 rebate. It looks like it is for store front purchases only?

Also, I do see there's a $100 rebate BUT it had an exclusion for the P7 tire..

$100 Visa Prepaid Card
Any 4 BFGoodrich, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, or Pirelli
(excludes Pirelli P7, ATV and Trailer tires)
