The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

I'm going to try and make it out to the 8/11 AutoX at Lakeland this Sunday. Just got a few things I need to do to my car and I should be ready.

I did the SCCA Championship Tour in Wilmington this past weekend and it was crazy fun. Turns out it is an awesome experience when you take an autocross with a lot of people (around 270) drivers and add the national level of competitiveness. I'm definitely hooked and will be doing all of the national events within a couple hour drive next year.

Saturday morning was raining, which made for a not fun experience driving to the event on my Toyos with about 2/32nds of tread. Luckily it stopped by the time I arrived at the event site at Wilmington Air Park.

All teched an ready to go:

I was in the first run group so the course was damp and drying for everyone. By the 3rd run the course was completely dry so you basically had 1 run to get it right for your best time of the day. My 3rd run raw time was good enough for 3rd place, but I coned it dropping me to 5th after day 1.
(Not sure where I hit a cone. I forgot to go and look to see which cone was called on me after my group.)

Sunday was about as perfect as it gets as far as the weather. Look at all that beautiful, dry concrete!

I was able to make up some ground and was sitting in 3rd place after my 2nd run. But everyone else went faster on their third run and I laid down a DNF to end up in 5th place.
I'm having issues with some of the videos from the Hero3, so right now all I have is Hero2 video from day 2.

Yeah it was crazy fun. Very fast with lots of grip.

I think 9-ish? Are you guys coming up, Larry? There is plenty of good spots in the shade to sit and hang out. And bring your little helmet for ride alongs. :)

I didn't think I even posted a joke. By "little helmet" I meant that literally. Larry has a tiny head. I wasn't talking about his wiener. haha

I am thinking about it. Maybe after it's over we could go eat or get some ice cream/frogert? I would like to finally try an autocross but I would have to be on the road at like 730. I wish there were some more closer to me, well the MOSCC has theirs in Shelby. I think we will come up and hang out. I might have to change my user name to Ballast1018 if I don't get on a track of some sort soon.

LOL! No problem, buddy. You're always more than welcome to ride along with me. I don't mind the extra weight since I'm so slow anyway. And ice cream/dinner sounds great afterwards.

What do you guys think?

haha i thought you were saying for him to watch, because hes scared to participate

Small brain+small skull=little helmet. Small adult size helmet to be exact.
After a brief discussion it appears I might actually run the autocross. Question is can I register that morning or do I have to pre-register.
Evan, do you still have that KL collecting dust just in case I zoom zoom boom? LOL!

I am scared to blow my stuff up, yes. I do want to go fast though. If you had seen how I was wedged into Chris's RX7 at MidOhio you would know I aint skeered.

AJ, sorry, I misunderstood.

Larry, you can preregister online but don't have to pay until Sunday morning if you like. It makes it a little easier for the cats running the auto-x if you preregister. And I sold that KL months ago, sorry, man. I've got a brand new 2.3l MS3/6 motor in the garage we can swap in though. Haha

And it's okay to be skeerd about blowing stuff up. But an auto-x is only about 45 seconds of on/off throttle and cornering. You probably beat on her harder on the street. But I totally understand your hesitation, thus why I bought a spare motor for insurance. But you can't let the "what if i break something" not let you enjoy the car and auto-x it. Or else you'll never get to have any fun. But I understand money for replacement parts is limited. That's why we keep Will around for loans from the vault. :D

I think Will is allowing us to be graced by his presence. Haha. You are right Evan, can't worry about blowing it up. If I do maybe I can get that unicorn horn engine from Corey.

Evan why is it that all the stuff you decide to sell coincide with me not having the cash. CF hood, Rays, KL come to mind, pisses me off when I think about it.

The only thing you really have to worry about with the FS is long sweeping turns at high rpm. Can cause oil starvation
