how much boost can it take

Sorry but it was an extremely successful experiment. The msp was just not the finished product.. take a look at the popularity of the MS3. Yes I know they are completely different cars but the experiment was to gauge the market.

It was successful in getting a market for the mazdaspeed line yes. But actual decent performance car no, except in handling. The na fsze made just as much power. Stock tune sucks. Weak rods for an fi car. Weak LSD. They burn through coil packs etc. it simply was not built to be boosted. Every car has its flaws and I love my protege but the msp had a lot of issues that Mazda addressed with the msm. Then had a real setup for the ms3/ms6

Stealth- I am actually on my 3rd starter lol. both o2 sensors were replaced and have now died within a week of esch other, i have 1 factory caliper left. And my mine has way more issues due to neglect, but the mp3 tune is pretty nice and has probly helped it a good bit

I never implied that the engine/turbo/transmission setup was any good :p The suspension is pretty amazing for the price bracket though (if you don't include the sway bar bushings).

The only reason why they had the suspension right is a mazda aftermarket company designed it. Orginally the prototype MSP had much larger swaybars in the front and rear. I found that out while calling racingbeat to try and order some parts for the MSP. What sucks is mazda made them sign something to where they cant sell stuff for the protege line up such as the swaybars....

Last I checked you can get the springs away bars and struts from racing beat. Or at least it's on their sight. Msp is basically an mp3 with a turbo. Supposedly mp3 was supposed to be the first mazdaspeed but it was to slow and didn't want to discredit the name on their first production speed line. Being an mp3 owner imagine how that feels

It's funny, one of these threads always pops up every 3-4 weeks and it ends up the same way. Instead of directing them to the hundreds of other threads on this topic or answering OP's question, it ends up in an argument of the capability of the MSP or Protege platform.

OP, if you want your answer there's a search function. Or just look in the forced induction section of the MSP subforum, either way, just a little research on this site will yield the answers you want and you'll probably learn a thing or two. Not trying to be an ass, that's how I learned a lot.

It was answered. If he doesn't want to risk blowing it up stock boost with ssafc is the best bet if he wants to push it and risk blowing it up eventually then 10psi is what most people will run on stock internals. Regardless it needs something other than bad stock tune. That was answered multiple times if you read past the off topic stuff

the stock MSP motor can handle over 150PSI on stock block might only last 1 second but hey anything is possible ;)

for me the msp was just a major headache, i would worry about it alot and i would barely drive anywhere bc i thought my car was a pos about to blow. Then i did my share of research and found out about 3 things

ecu flash
ssafcv2
understanding the open to closed loop switch and how important is to drive this car effectively

now all i can complain about is rust and stupid noises i get due to this being my dd =P
