The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Happy Friday, Meeps.

What does everyone have planned for the weekend?

I'm going to continue to attempt to get the air out of the Miata brake system. And maybe autocross on Sunday in Columbus with the STi.

rolling fenders... Yeah I'm scared
But on a good note I should have my coilovers and camber arms to install next Saturday so she should be able to handle the twisties now. And I signed up for my etune and hopefully will have that before the next meet

Lot's of heat and patience. Don't rush it.

Just like Evan says... Slow and lots of heat and you'll be good to go. I cracked the paint on one of the fenders of my MS3 because I got anxious. A little touch up paint fixed it right up.

Wheel bearings, exhaust, relocate harness wires, AFR gauge, and looking over the suspension. Probably going to slap on the R1-S tires and run them around and see how much grip I'm going to have.

O.O tires for the Smart ordered. I am so excited lol. I have never been so excited for an all season before hahaha.

My theory is that going from a 7" to a 9" on the 2 (with sticky rubber) made it a Gokart, if I go from a 4.5"/5.5" on the smart to a 7.5" all around with decent rubber it will haz Gokart status also lol... We shall see!

C'mon Corey, everything is small on a Smart. No offence but they just look scary. Especially on the highway. On another note. I am glad I get to hold this sofa down for a while today. I hung drywall with a friend all week (~30 hours) and a 6 day week at the shop. I am too old for this s***!

Wow I didn't realize the widths were that small on a Smart.

Yep. Going from 5.5" all around with the snows to the narrower front tires was horrible. I almost under steered into a curb the other day taking a turn like I would have on the snows. Butt pucker!

Why did you get rid of the 2?

How easy is it to find those weird 3 lug wheels?

I test drove a Smart on a whim and had a lot of fun, traded the 2 the next weekend.

Not easy to find good looking ones, haha! I do like the Rota slipstreams in 17" on a Smart, though. But I got 16x7.5" from tire rack close out for $40 a wheel.

Wow a 7.5 width on a smart? The MS3 with 280 torques to the front wheels (and a lot more weight) only has a 7.5" width wheel. The 16s I bought for the Miata are only a 7" width.

The MS3 doesn't put 280 ft lbs to the front wheels. She's not doing it to be able to put down power. She's doing it so the car sticks in the turns.

The turbocharged MZR is rated at 280 lb-ft and 263 hp stock, of course there will be drive train losses. Being a turbocharged motor, you can have boost spikes where it momentarily operates outside of the original specification. Also, conditions like temperature, humidity, elevation, engine temperature, heat soak, and others can effect how much power it will make. There are also other factors, internal engine tolerances, even differences between turbos. I have seen many dyno graphs where a stock MS3 makes close to if not slightly more than 280 lb-ft, although not over the entire range (usually its a spike when the turbo builds full boost around 3k rpm.) If you would like to see some of these yourself, just search Stock Mazdaspeed3 Dyno on google. Now I will not say that every dyno of every MS3 will make 280 lb-ft, but I think you should consider that it is entirely possible that "A" stock MS3 "could" make 280 lb-ft on a dyno.
