The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

This. Let's see how well the economy responds when people who rely on personal vehicles for transportation are spending 10%+ of their yearly income on fuel. Not to mention the fact that the price of just about everything else is also a function of fuel prices; especially produce.

Exactly and I look for prices on most groceries to rise (heard that milk is expected to go over $4 a gallon here and soon.

It was more of a planned failure point than it was an LSD... lol.

Remember the days when 170 hp in a FWD 4cyl was king s***? Or are Evan and I just really old? (We had this discussion once, a while ago)

Well damn...if you are really old, then let me go get my walker.

could have been worse,

NASCAR - sports car series

Ummmm, I can see where that may have brought in some new fans from the Nascar fold.

I dont know why you all are hating nascar so much, yes its just racing around oval tracks (for the most part) BUT they have built up and assembled a serious group of good drivers, week in and week out have suspenseful/tight racing, have HUGE crowds week in and week out, built their sport to be on NATIONAL TV channels week in and week out and are actually alot of fun to attend in person. go ahead and rip me and call me a redneck but a bit more of "NASCAR" rubbing off on might not hurt the road racing circuit series...

nascar became to corporate, and the gen5 cars, whatever the last one was absolutely terrible. At least now they somewhat resemble their street counterpart. That's what I'm afraid of, a bunch of cars that are basically the same in every way except the manufacturer sticker. That and the last Brickyard I went to just sucked, 7 laps caution, 7 laps caution. boring as hell. If they add more short tracks and shorten the races it would better IMHO. Some more road courses coudln't hurt either. Seeing them at the same basic shaped track every other week gets old.

Because Grand-Am couldn't merge (take over) and have thier DP's get dusted every race. They will anyway by the p2 cars.

Honestly, I think the answer to the GX question is "Because Mazda".

What people don't get is there's a huge difference between what is basically a spec-class and a true prototype class like P2. P1 has been dead in the US for ages, that ain't nothing new. Put DPs on real tires (not Pirelli Spec-Rocks) and open up the Aero, and I don't think the P2s can stand with DPs. The second they touch the P2 is going to be an explosion of Carbon Fiber while the DPs keep running. I'm not saying one's better than the other, just understand what the differences are. A lot of the same goes for ALMS GT and Rolex GT, you can't really compare the 2. Yeah, there's a big speed differential, but one's running a spec tire and the other is a designated tire-manufacturer's designated playground, and the aero rules are also much much more open in ALMS GT.

After 2014, probably 2016 or so, we'll see a true unified series.

All that said: The series name? Eh, not awesome, not terrible. The series logo? My 2 year olds could have come up with better.

This.

I forgot about the fragility of the P2 cars, that should be interesting.

and Nascar did its part to fix the gen5 flop with the new cars... they listened to fans and have done something to try to make the sport better
as far as the cars, yes they have all have to meet certain specs but there is ALOT of adjustments/variables that give teams the ability to change handling that can make or break a cars speed on the new gens, they arent as "cookie cutter" as you make them sound anymore haha

again im looking at it from this point of view... Road racing is a Niche market right now with average (at best) race coverage... a little bit of the good ol boys marketing and "selling out to corporate" for better coverage on national channels IMO isnt a bad thing... i hate the fact that i cant watch every race right now, im stuck with bad quality streaming online or reruns, or shelling out a bunch of extra money each month just to get Speed Channel and get to enjoy their atrocious coverage of races (sorry but i hate speed channels coverage of GA) but hey what do i know, im just one of those dumb rednecks that watches nascar every weekend haha

I was glad when they annouced the new car. Nascar coverage is 85-90% of Danica so far this year, that also makes it hard to watch. She's not that good of a driver and I don't think she'll make the chase more than once.

Nascar racing is about the same as watching a basketball game. You watch the start to get an idea of how it's going to go, there might be something in the middle (wreck or sweet dunk) but pretty much all the action is the last 10 laps/2 minutes.

hey i didnt say the fox coverage was great, but atleast i can easily watch it hahaha

and i kinda like that about Nascar, i can watch the first 50 laps, take an hour nap or so, then wake up and watch the last 50 laps... its PERFECT programming for a sunday afternoon haha

Fox does own speed so...

I would love it if they did more than the all-star race as a "Saturday Night Special" race with heats. I remember when espn2 first came out and the had Friday Night Thunder with midgets & USAC racing. That was the best.

and new Chevy SS under $30k? http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2013/3/3/Chevy-SS-to-Base-Below-30k-7713185/

might just be me but I find it pretty sexy

I have a feeling that they'll show even less coverage of the gt/gx class than what they do now. I hate watching SPEED Grand Am Rolex series & 75 - 80% of the coverage is DP & out of that there's about 30% of Pruet & Rojas *puke*. All this means to me, is that there'll be less air time of the cars/teams that i enjoy watching & cheering for.

thanks, Will! I forgot to watch "the unveiling" ... and fwiw I don't like it. : /

I am sitting here looking at the logo and I told Lauri that s*** looks like branding for a feminine product!!! I mean even of you do not see a sign that says McDonalds, you'll see the damn golden arches and you know it is Mc Donalds!! Hell this logo will make me go out and buy tampons or panty shields......United Sports Car Racing? Hell, let's change it to USCR League.......I have to say who ever was the creative genius's who came up with the design and the name, must have come from a Middle School Art Class......You gotta be kidding me..........Hell I would have settled for "Le Grand American Le Mans Race Series" or some other other hokey BS name, but this USCR s***..really, really? Rant over!!!

Ok... didnt have time to post this yesterday... but...

About the whole ethanol debate.

So... ethanol is a net energy loss. And what is gasoline? all the energy to find oil, drill, pump it out and refine it. it has to be a net loss as well. plus it is a finite resource. it is getting harder to get out already. i can only imagine the costs in 100 years. so why dont we just quit that s*** now?

now, im not saying ethanol is the answer... really it is not. i do not like the idea of taking food and making it food for engines. it is making food prices go up and we are even importing corn (yes we are... they may try to hide it but i know we are) to meet the ethanol plant demand since corn did so poorly here this last year in lots of the country. it holds less energy than gasoline as well. we really just need to get rid of the internal combustion engine. i dont know why we are all stuck on it. it is an old design that has been patched up with modern gizmos to make it more efficient.

now i dont know the specifics, it has been a while, but gasoline engines are about 25% efficient at best. that is they convert only 25% of the energy potential of gasoline into actual motion. electric engines are far more efficient. im going conservative to say 85% of the energy stored turnes into motion. plus, instant 100% torque. electric engines are the answer... really they are. the hardest part is storing and creating electricity. that is what we need to put our resources into figuring out. not into more stupid gimicks to sell more crap engines like "eco-boost". OMG... you put a turbo on it! welcome to the 80's FORD!
