Rear lip installation and rust treatment.

Hello everyone, I finally managed to find a used OEM MSP 03 rear lip. I currently have the little red pads on the bumper that used to hold the old one(that had to be took off because it was broken). Did someone ever installed one and could give me some tips to install it?

Also, do you guys think I could do something for that rust? I was planning on doing it myself because I'm a student, so my budget is pretty limited...
(there is a rust spot the size of a fist in the door that I forgot to take a picture of)

My suggestion would be to sand it down to bare metal and throw some primer on it until you have the money to pay for new paint. That would at least prevent the rust from spreading. To me it just looks like surface rust so it's not to bad.

i would suggest not doing this if you plan on driving the car at all, primer will not prevent anymore rust and will actually draw the moisture from the air and cause the metal under it to rust faster. You need to top coat primer for it to become waterproof that is why you paint over primer. IMO if you like the car and plan on keeping it save the money and get a pro to do it, some things are worth doing on teh cheap bodywork and painting IMO are not one.

to fix the one on the A pillar properly your windshield will have to be removed, i would put money on it you have rust around the rest of the seam. The hood will need new metal welded in as I bet once you start picking at those bubbles and rust spots you will go through the thin metal.

but thats only my opinion, i do not do bodywork i have just spent enough time around a shop and have had enough done on my cars to know that once you see rust its always worst behind the panel.

But thats going to cost me like 1300$ for the whole car.. it's wayyyy to expensive for me. Do you have any alternative?

You can do it yourself however I don't know what tools you have at your disposal. Seeing as spring is rolling around I am getting ready to do the body work on mine. But if you have access to a sandblaster and a place to park your car inside to prime and paint it you can take care of the surface rust, however if the metal has rusted thin or through, you will also need access to a plasma cutter a welder and a sheetmetal roller as well as some knowledge of applying body filler. An angle grinder would probably be a good idea too

just an fyi i had rust on my front pillar just like yours and when i sent it in to the body shop the guy pulled the windshield and there was rust all the way around where the window was sealed bc the windshield had previously been replaced and when they sealed it up they didnt use enough sealer and there was a good amount of a gap for water to sit in there.

new windshield was 250 for a high quality one and he fixed all the rust
i also got my rear qtr panels fixed and re painted
spoiler sanded down and re-cleared
and he popped a few dents out and buffed the whole car

cost me 1000 bucks... best investment imo since i love the car and now i love the way it looks!
