2012 Mazda 5
Hi All,
I recently bought a 2012 Mazda 5 Touring. I have since joined a couple of Mazda forums and have read about an uneven tire wear issue that seems to be happening with a lot of 5s.
Has anyone noticed this with their 2012 model? Any idea if this was fixed for the new model?

Thanks.

My 2012 has the Toyo tires, the vehicle has about 2000 miles on it, but the front tires already look like they have about 10K miles. Looks like they used pencil erasers to make these tires.

We have 15k on ours, noticed the tires (Toyos) are getting louder. They have been rotated at 5k and 10k (at the dealer during oil changes). They all look new still which surprises me. Running 35 psi, the wear pattern looks good.

Since we rotate at every oil change, I can tell you guys that on our car, the rear tires are the ones that get louder, very noticeable once they are changed up to the front. No visible signs of odd wearing though, ours still look new. Anyone have the factory toe/camber specs for these cars? They don't look too extreme visibly.

My 2012 has 39k on it now and the tires (Bridgestones) are still at 6/32 all around. I'm pretty impressed; I have rotated them at each service~7500 miles or so.

The OEM toyos are junk! Rotated at 7.5k. Had the alignment checked (A little off, but still well within specs). Just kept getting louder. Switched them out at about 12k because they were just to loud. Riding on Bridgestones Potenza RE760 now. So much better.

My Toyo's problem isn't that they are loud, it's the vibration. I'm wondering if both these problems come from the same root cause.... crappy manufacturing??

That was a problem with the '06 and '07 Mazda5's, it was mostly fixed on the '08 through '10's. Haven't heard of any issues with the '12.

There was no '11 model.

Mine is 2012 with 7500 miles - fixin' to do first oil change (if I can figure it out). My alignment was horrible from day 1, but the salespeople promised to align it correctly. They lied. The thing tugs hard right. I am about to take the wheels off, and at first sight, while I've got the thing off the ground, they actually don't look that bad.

On the 07's the only so;ution was to add a camber link to align the wheels properly. But the Toyos are crap to begin with, even the Nankangs I replaced it with lasted more than 35k km. It would have lasted longer if not for the accident that slightly hit my right rear wheel that set off the alignment and damaged that tire alone because I didn't notice in time to save it.

Regarding tugging to the right.

I have a 2010 with 29,000 miles. I put a set of new tires at 25,000 miles as the old ones were really worn. Well let me tell you, I rotated every 5,000 miles. And when I put new Nexen tires on at the dealer, they re-aligned it x 2 and it's still tugging to the right. I am telling you, it's something with the car, not the alignment, something more complicated. But they told me it was fine, it's just the way it is. I do not see uneven tire wear yet, so we will see. Good luck, but after a while I just don't give a rat's behind any more.

I have a 2012 with 18k miles, tires rotated every oil change (5k mi OCI). The stock Toyos are getting pretty bad. They look fine, but howl and resonate something fierce now. Imagine what sounds like flat spotted, cupped tires and bad wheel bearings. That's exactly how it sounds. Bad enough, makes my mid-90s convertible Mustang seem like a Lexus in comparison.
