FS-DE Oil System

What kind of oil pressure were you able to maintain after 10 laps. Let's say at 6k with proper cam and bearing clearances and proper oil.

Thanks

Maintaining good oil pressure is what our oil system is all about!

When we first started developing the FS-DE turbo for racing we couldn't get the motors to last more than 3 hours due to loss of oil pressure. Now that we have developed the whole system we have had the same motor in the race car for two seasons plus!

We can maintain 70-80 psi oil pressure at 6500 rpm for 3 hours of continuous racing.

Thanks!

Hi Doc....I have the Doc B pump and external regulator, when I start my car oil pressure is around 70psi then when warm drops to 20ish,my issue is after an hour or so of driving my oil pressure does not go past 30psi,I have adjusted the regulator and also played with different oil weights,so my question is what do you think may be the issue?......any imput would be appreciated

What oil weight are you running? What is your oil temp? I'd suspect either the pump, regulator, or an internal issue.

I dunno oil temps.i don't have a temp gauge, but if it's supposed to be relative to water temps I'm usually around 180. I'm was using shell rotella 15/40 but switched to 5/30. If internal will a compression test indicate?

Sorry I took a break for the Holidays......

Anyway, is this something that has occured just recently or have you always seen these oil pressure numbers? Also, how many miles are on the engine?

I see you have moved from 15/40 to 5/30. Definitely dropping your oil weight/viscosity will have an effect on oil pressure by dropping it as well. for the cold temps you are seeing currently in NYC I would try a 5/40 weight oil.

Thanks!

If you are able to develop 70psi at start up I don't think there is a problem with the pump or regulator. The internal issues that may be the culprit unfortunately won't be found with a compression test. Let me know the answers to the first questions and we can go from there....

Thanks!

To be honest I never really paid attention...as you are well aware our cars spend more time in the shop than on the road but now I have alot of issues sorted out so I basically drive every day now ....If im not mistaken prior to your set up I THINK I would get 50ish PSI with the oem pump alone.Right now I think I have the adjustment maxed out to the point where I can hit 90PSI on start up( yes I know the filter cannot sustain that amt.of pressure) then when warm it will drop to 20,and I think that's what its usually at,but now I see it even lower when warm, maybe 15psi.....If internal do you think it might br rings or bearings?...What should I look at?

Try adjusting the regulator when the engine is warm and let me know what you get. I would also try a 5W40 oil as it will have a better viscosity at warm temp and a little safer at cold temps.
How many miles are on this engine? Usually when we see issues like this it is due to wear in the bearings (especially the mains) causing the clearances to go out of spec towards the wide side.
Thanks!

The car has 44xxx miles and maybe 12xxx miles on forged internals

Hi I was wondering If there was a phone number to call Doc B? I wanted the shop to talk to you that is tuning the car. They feel that the doc b pressure regulator is unnecessary.

As I said to you in a PM..

"**** Them and what they feel" It is your car. You TELL them what YOU want done with it. PERIOD
