Mazda to produce the 2 for Toyota?

I know this was on another thread, but this is the first article I came across that gives some details to the partnership, seems to be a rebadged Mazda. IT is a win win for both parties. Funny thing is I can already see Toyota selling tons of them, while the actual 2 won't do as well, just because it is a Toyota. There will be tons of uninformed people who won't look at the Mazda 2, but will buy tons of these because they have the Toyota logo on the front. I just hope Toyota doesn't screw them up by softening the suspension on them, that would be a travesty.

at least it give mazda some revenue stream for the time being ,and im sure toyota will change a few minor things but pretty much agree with ya cburrel

All I can say is that maybe now there will be a Toyota that actually doesn't have a soft suspension and can actually handle well. Lets just hope that toyota doesn't mess with the internals and just re-arranges the sheet metal.

I would think that the FR-S qualifies as a car that handles well, along with the IS-F and LF-A. :D

well if they stop the 2 in the US which is likely at least well have the Toyoda 2 to swap stuff for. TRD has some cool stuff.

Allow me to qualify that statement, Most Toyota's don't handle well, especially those falling under the toyota name. Yes, they have made some scions and lexus' that have handled nicely, but for the most part suspensions on toyota's are like jello: soft.

Exactly. Most Toyotas are made for people who don't care about driving, they just want an appliance to get them from A to B. This is quite the opposite of Mazda, who make cars that appeal to those of us who enjoy sporty feeling vehicles. I know I've been hating on Toyota a lot on here, but its not because there is anything wrong with them, its just that I'm afraid that the 2 might lose some of it's zoom-zoom. Hopefully it won't and Mazda will make Toyota/Scion a fun car.

well the 2 wont really be affected as itll be a toyota, mazda will still make the 2. prolly with skyactiv which could be really interesting.

but yeah mazdamatic i can see the mazda2 with skyactiv + the ieloop and maybe the istop i think it was called...they have some badass things coming down the pipeline that cant wait to see ,just make the mazda2 even better :)

Very true- although I was pleasantly surprised when I was in a rental Camry for a few weeks a year ago- the ride was extremely soft and isolated, but damn- it cornered FLAT.

before i bought my 2, i test drove a '11 yaris and it was the lamest i've ever felt sitting in a car. i'd rather be caught driving my daughter's barbie powerwheels jeep.

def interested to see how this thing turns out, though.
