How much are they selling it for?

I saw a tractor-trailer load of 2's go by the timHortons the other day- some one's gettin' some 2's.
I'd say here in columbus there's about two mazda 2's for every cx5, so there should be about, hmmm.... 8... or 10 (wow!!! :D )
Byers mazda always has a lot of cx5's- you can see them from the highway- don't know how well those are selling.

mazda sent us a $25 gift card if we'd come drive a 2- i went in for the card, but i did sort of want to drive the car. Being 17 or 18 or whatever at the time, i wasn't about to buy a new car- so the guy said something like "Oh, well here- we'll just give you the card. We don't want to put more miles on the cars."
I guess that makes me a douche.

Maybe mazda's sales will jump when the new 6 comes out in a month or so

The EPA numbers are killing this car. Why buy one that gets 35mpg when the Accent for sale down the street gets 40 for about the same price?

( Never mind that plenty of 2s get over 40mpg on the freeway while Hyundai owners struggle to meet their EPA numbers :\ )

Exactly

My friend is a service manager at the Mazda dealership here locally he has said they have sold a lot more Mazda 2's here recently.

with mazda producing the fiesta for ford i think the lack of marketing is contract obligated could be conflict of interest..suzuki did same made the sprint and firefly while producing the swift which was a better car option wise but for the first few years suzuki didnt push the marketing like the sprint ,firefly, geo metro did ..i didnt buy my m2 for any reason other than cost, fuel economy and quality..the competion was more much more and quality was imo lower than the mazda by far..

I don't think Mazda is producing the Fiesta for Ford. Can you back that up?

They share the same platform and that's it. The mazda 2 is built in Japan and the Fiesta in Mexico

next gen ? so we're gonna have one for north america !

That story is from over a year ago. The current belief is that the 2 will not be sold in North America after 2013. The Mazda 3 being new for the 2014 model year coincides with that story, though, about the Mexico plant coming online in 2013. So I'd say that the Mexico plant will build the 3rd gen Mazda 3's, and it's possible that they'll shift production for another popular vehicle, like the CX-5, to the new plant as well.

This interesting PR came up this morning. It makes me think Mazda may keep plugging away with the 2.

"On November 9, Mazda Motor Corp. issued the following press release:

Mazda to Produce Toyota Vehicle at Mexico Plant

Toyota Motor Corporation and Mazda Motor Corporation announced that Mazda's plant in Mexico, currently under construction, will produce a Toyota-brand vehicle for sale mainly in North America.
The sub-compact Toyota-brand vehicle, to be based on the Mazda2, is to start production around the summer of 2015 at a pace of 50,000 units per year and will be sold through Toyota dealerships.

Details are available at:

I just came here to post the same thing. Looks like Toyota has finally conceded that the Yaris is trash. Yay for the 2!

Mazda really needs to invest in more luxury options and amenities, But then again that would make them more competitive against all of the car manufactures they're building for!. Crappy Kia's are selling like crazy because they have so much to offer. Weather you use it or not it's a big selling point when deciding on making a purchase on the second biggest investment people have.
