Rally2003's Build Thread

I wanted to have the fender completely donebefore pics, but since you guys can't wait I might have a few rough drafts tonight. The temp is getting too cold forthe resin to dry fastenough to work on the parts within a 2 or 3 day period. The outer layer leaves a finger print, becomes cloudy in appearence, and needs wedsanded and buffed. I'll see what I can do. Sorry for the delay. I wish I had a house with a garage. This going back and forth to my friends house kinda sucks. Better than nothing though I guess.

As promised. They still need a final sanding, but pretty close to being done with fender uno.

Hopefully it will be done after the autoX tomorrow :)

Not the best cf fender, but it is the first of many cf parts I'll be making and a great learing experience.

Really hoping to have it on the car tomorrow and have a couple more pics. Then on to the other fender.

That's a pretty expensive skill to be perfecting. Looks good though, can't wait to see more.

Let my buddy co-drive the MSP with me today and blew another PS pump. I don't think it likes spinning and pushing fluid while the motor is around 6,000RPM's. 3 pump this year that I've blown the sensor out and shot fluid out of. Appearently the PS pump is a bigger problem to me than the FS motor. Ran my best time with 3 other people in the car. Was a blast, but didn't get to run my 5th run because of the PS pump failure.

Im strongly considering that later on down the road. Maybe go the route brianmp5t took with the water pump and also an electric PS pump to take some of the load off of the engine and clean some things up. I really like the way Brian did his braided lines with the PCV and other braided lines.

^ He said he hasn't had a PS pump since 2003. It is a variable cooling pump in the picture. Fooled me too. So back to the drawing boards :( I haven't seen anyone else with an electric pump. Unless you guys know of someone else?

Fender looks good, I want to see them on the car :)

As far as the PS pump, does anyone have a good electric solution? The rack on the Mazda 2 has been by far the best feeling and responding rack I've had in a car. It was... Dare I say, perfect. At first it was light, but I was used to depowered racks :)

(It's electric)

search MR2 electric pump

It's too much work to do the water pump thing that MP5T has. Not worth your time.

I'll have to look it up and the water pump thing is beond what I want to do.

Sorry, but it made me smile :)

So.. when you replace your pump and fill your reservoir, do you start the car, move the wheels from lock to lock, all the while checking the level and filling? Cavitation could happen if you didn't do a really good bleed.

Yep, did that. This last time I actually took it in an had them flush out the whole system and replaced all the old with new. On this last fast course the car was always between 3500-6500RPM's and most of the time it was between 5000-6500RPM's. You could start to feel the ps give out when making a sharp turn after a long dash at high rpm's. It would act like the pump would kick off or lock up and then kick back on after the car wasn't turning and back on a straight. My belt has little melt/rub marks on it were it looks like the pulley locked up on the ps pump and the crank was tying to force it around. When I took the belt off it was stuck to the crank pulley.
