So after killing my oil pump I thought I would put the pieces back together and see what made this a "High Volume" pump. I got the pump from import performance parts like two or three years ago with the promise that it was a High volume pump.
After reviewing the pieces and comparing it to a stock pump I'm not to sure that it is, the outer casting is the same as a stock one and the gear rotor measure the same in every way. The only difference I have found with this "HV" pump is grooves that are milled in the thin areas of the outer gear rotor. As I understand how gear pumps work the missing tooth volume creates a vacuum as the gear spins the volume increases. Then it gets to a point where the volume is decreasing creating pressure and thus a pump. Look up gear rotor on Wikipedia for those who don't know what I'm talking about. So if the stock pump and toga pump have the same rotor what makes the Toga one high volume? There some pictures below. If anyone else has any experience with these pumps or other comments chime in.

This is a close up of the gear rotor, notice how it fractured where the grooves are.
Some things I would like to verify are that the newer (2002+) pumps are the same as my stock pump and that the grooves are not a revision in the newer models. My stock pump is from a 2001 mp3.
