I need recommendations on HID kits

I've heard that the 55w kit may put off enuf heat to melt parts of the headlight but not real sure on that one. That wag I wanted to put in my msp.

55w is kind of a waste of money unless you're retrofitted with projectors and running d2s or d2r bulbs or something, and I have never heard of parts melting from it, IMHO I would go with 35w. And a lot of people go through ddm tuning for their hid stuff, and I have never heard anything wrong. In fact I have only heard recommendations for that company.

If you don't' have projectors retrofitted then I suggest not doing this. It's illegal and and it will piss off every person that you drive by. You're just going to spread light all over the place.

DDM kits are notorious for having mismatched bulbs, and horrible customer service.

TheRetrofitSource.com is a much more reputable company.

i also agree that a 55w kit without a projector retrofit will label you as a "Doosh" to everyone else on the road.

I guess the recommendations I read for ddm are only for pricing then haha.

Been running a DDM kit on my car for years....works great. Bought a kit recently for my brothers Miata. I have no complaints in my dealings with them.

Cant beat the price. Just get the 35w kit.

i have ebay 8k hids with retrofitted headlights no complaints.. the thing is with the 55w is that if you end up doing a retro fit w/ projectors itll burn a spot in the glass of the projector, that might've been what you heard about the burning part

I don't mean to thread jack but I have MSP headlamps on my P5 and am not sure which bulb to get for the MSP's. Which one's do I order and would the Hi/Low funstion work properly with my P5 wiring? Thanks in advance.

ps- I ran a DDM kit on my last P5 for 3 years without an issue and 1 year on my Milly without an issue. Great company.

Just to add on.
These look like absolute garbage.

If you're looking to go squirrel spotting then slap some HIDs in and call it a day.
But you can see from the first three pictures how terrible it looks, and just because it's brighter doesn't mean it puts light where you need it.

Also remember that blue is harder for the human eye to see...though it looks brighter, you're seeing less.
4300k is the brightest (per lumen count), and as you progress into more color you lose usable light

Do most replacement bulbs out there work with those little clips that hold the bulbs in place? I had to get a pair of new bulbs for my Techone kit, and they didnt work with the clips.

Are you talking about regular halogen bulbs? Regardless they are made to fit specific types, should the 3 tabs should fit inplace and the metal arm should swing right across.

I have an HID kit, needed new bulbs. Bought a replacement pair, but the metal arm/clip thing refused to lock into place. I guess I will order a pair of bulbs from DDM since it seems like many people are running them.

Here is a pic of the original Techone bulbs and the replacements I got. The replacement is tyhe black one, the little arm wont lock into place. You can see where there's no indentation in the plastic at the bottom.

You may have to modify something, or lightly bend the metal arm. I feel like I had the same problem with my Honda when I switched over to HIDs but I don't recall what I did.

EDIT: I think I remember now, I believe the metal arm is held on by a small phillips screw. If you loosen the screw it should give the metal arm a little more space.
I'm not sure if that is what I ended up doing, but it popped into my head.

you need to get an H4 kit, since that's what fits into the MSP headlights. should still work fine with your protege5 wiring, but it will connect a little bit differently. plug the ballast into the low beam connector, and the high beam solenoid into the high beam connector.

do NOT touch the clip retaining screw. if that thing comes out of the housing, you will be swearing up a storm trying to get it back in. it is NOT meant to come out for bulb replacement.

I never mentioned removing the clip, just slightly loosening.
