What have you done to your P5 today?

i was smart enough to have my blue tooth OBDII connected when i first started her up so i had an eye on volts the entire time. also at 18v my stereo turned itself off so im pretty sure nothing went bad (at least i hope not)
im bummed out that not only do i have to do the entire job again, but i also have to wait till tomorrow for them to get a new alt in.... totally killed my day.
at least im on vacation!

I would just take out the driver side switch and see if it works on the passenger side. If so, I would assume they would both work independently. If THAT works, I would consider doing all 4. But again, that's just me. I have a new project now.

My thought was just for me to have the auto switches. I really don't want to try to source 6 window switches. Then again I need to do some research.

The ECU regulates alternator output? I had no idea, I have only seen/heard of internally regulated alts or alts with an external regulator old school style. Good luck on the re-install Jigga, hope nothing got screwed up sensor wise. Wait where did you get the first alternator? If there is something screwed-up I would think they would be liable for any repairs. Be sure to get the re-replacement alt tested!

Have a look at page 6 of the wiring diagram, the alternator is a very simple device. You have a 3-phase stator winding and a single-phase rotor winding. The stator windings provide AC power which is rectified to DC by those 8 diodes which is then "smoothed" by the capacitor.

The output voltage of the alternator is controlled by varying the current flowing through the rotor's winding. You can see that one side of the rotor's winding is connected to B+ and the other is connected through a transistor to ground. Thus the ECU can control the output voltage of the alternator by varying the current through the base of that transistor (Light-Green/White wire). The remaining wire (White/Blue) is a sense wire for the ECU, I'm not sure if that's what the ECU uses to determine the output voltage of the alternator. At the very least it's used to make sure the alternator is working properly (the ECU can sense the period AC waveform).

By letting the ECU control the alternator, it can do some really smart stuff. For example, right after starting the engine it could set a higher output voltage to quickly top up the battery, or perhaps it could stop charging altogether under hard acceleration to reduce engine load. I'm not saying that our ECU does any of this, but things like that are why alternators are ECU-controlled.

alright, quick and final alt. update
i got the new one in and was able to do the entire swap in 45 min!
the hardest part (getting the damn thing out) was 100x easier by having someone push from the bottom, and one person pulling and twisting on top.

voltage is now regular and all i have to do is let the ecu re learn.

i did have Oreilly bench test the first one they gave me, and it passed 0.0 so im not sure how getting a bad alt could have been prevented.
all i care about is i have a spanking new alt!

Changed out my drive axles since mines finally broke being slammed for 10 years=)

Been busy all weekend making a rear diffuser for my car. Hopefully I will get the part fiberglassed tomorrow so I get it all trimmed up and the final reshaping done. Will post pics in a couple days when I get further.

I wasnt a fan of the isport one because it was so narrow on the read of the car so mine is gonna be a full width one that extends almost to my GT Spec link panel.

Worked on my rad brackets a little.

Sot take that, whoevers sellin' em in the fs section. (JK, those are really nice)

-Should i keep em painted silver or should i strip them down and polish them?

i do rub a little. but i am running 12mm and 215/45/17 tires.
im actually going to take them off and either go 8mm or no spacers at all.
once i get off my ass to take them off they will be up in the FS thread

I second pics. Interested in how that comes out!

Today I did something so simple yet so stupidly effective... I stopped my wink mirror from vibrating all the damn time!

are we allowed to post "closed course" racing vids? I have a vid of me pulling against a tuned b20 vtec swapped ek coupe.

Ohohohhoho post pictures when your done, I'm still planning my own diffuser and would love to see how yours looks!

If you are going to go with 8mm spacers, let me know if I can help :)

Describe "closed course".

Took a road trip to a friends place in Warwick NY. Ferdinand came along for the ride. With the power upgrades, the P5 is still seriously lacking grunt to get up the rolling hills in NY in 5th gear with the A/C on and some bags in the car.

Ferdinand not liking being stuck in Philadelphia rush hour traffic:

^Cute.

In not so awesome news, my P5 has a gas leak. It appears to be the very common fuel pump cover leak; luckily the smell has managed to mostly stay outside the car.

I'm *this* close to (literally) lighting a match.
