Stock Wheel + Tire Combo weight

I'm going to be at a shop tomorrow with a proper scale - I'm going to weigh myself, then myself holding a stock touring wheel+stock tire, then myself holding a 16" wheel with 205/45/16s. That should give some definitive weights to benchmark against for people shopping for wheel+tire combinations by weight in relation to the stockers.

i will be doing same see if weights are consistant..ive purchased 15's and will do same with them

The shop's analog scale (which has ticks between pounds) was out of order so I used the digital scale today. It shows whole pounds, but no increments, so you'll have to assume that any one of these measurements is off by up to 0.5 pounds in one direction or the other. For instance, 35 pounds might mean 34.5 or as high as 35.5 pounds. I stood on the scale, measured myself and then got back on with the Mazda stock Touring 15" wheel+tire combo - the weight differential showed 35 pounds. I then got back on the scale holding a 16" Sparco Assetto Gara with a 205/45/16 tire. The weight differential showed 35 pounds. So, this at least tells me that moving up to a 16" relatively lightweight wheel with a 205/45/16 tire gets you within a pound of, if not exactly, the same weight as our stock touring wheel/tire setup.

kool info just want to ad that even though the wheels are basically the same weight.. the 16's have their weight further from the center which means the weight is actually costing HP and milage compared to the same weight smaller diameter wheel..this is physics and there is no getting around that..you may not notice it due to your area but here you notice if the groceries are to heavy going home..lol
this is the only reason ive kept to 15's ..16's with low pro tires will look awesome i may kick myself later but for now im stoked to get such a good deal imo..

Very true, physics is a cruel mistress. I'm definitely aware of the increase in rotational mass with a larger wheel, but since this is my dd and the weight is relatively low for a 16, I wasn't overly concerned about a major difference in feel. My first driving impressions are that the ride quality is much better on the new tires, and I couldn't tell any difference with general acceleration and feel between the new wheels and the stock wheels. Pushed to the edge I'm sure things would feel a bit different, but I haven't been quite there yet ^_^

Don't forget less sidewall means less delay energy transference to tire. :)

ok i put the toyo proxes 4 195/50 15 tire on the scale here at home its a 4 point scale with glass top so the presure points are spread out equal..shipping weight was 17lbs but i beleive thats based on the manufacturer's specs because i got 18.2lbs on my home scale.with a 10lbs wheel..lets say 28.5lbs give or take...i beleive the stock wheels and tires to be closer to 34lbs..5.5lbs per corner is significant weight loss to help with both milage and bottom end torque..heres to hoping
