What was Mazda/Callaway thinking with internals and EMS????? ::First impressions::

It doesn't matter what the car runs like stock because there are hardly any stock MSPs left anymore. I had hesitation for over a year and it drove me nuts but I love the car to death now. All you need are Solid motor mounts, AFC, FMIC/hardpipes/bov, EBC, and exhaust to have plenty of fun in an MSP.

Also wanted to mention the Protege was NOT poorly thought out, from a mechanic's standpoint the car is a breeze to work on and very reliable. They gave the MSP a rich tune because they knew the first thing people would do is throw an MBC on it and crank the boost to 20psi.

You are hating a lot on the car, you should fix the problems you have with fuel cut before assuming all MSPs run like s***. They hesitate on the stock tune but shouldn't buck.

Oh I bet. Obv she needs kisses and hugs in certains areas hahahahah But nobody leaves their car stock for long anyways. AND DONT PLAN ON BOOSTING 20PSI HAHAHAH

I'm halfway there. I got the FMIC and BOV, gonna order motor mount inserts and SSAFC soon enough.

Just a question on the wisdom of adding the FMIC. I'll obviously have to cut and make the bumper work. Am I better off getting another bumper to preserve the bumper I have now? In other words, how valuable is an unmolested front bumper? Should I swap or sell it and get any old regular Protege bumper I can cut into, or are all bumpers one in the same, with the money being in the front lip?

You don't have to cut into your bumper...depending on how your piping is routed you'll only have to make two holes through the sheet metal into the engine bay (either from the front either side of the radiator or the sides near the washer reservoir and opposite fender well area.

That's not entirely true... I only had to make opening on the passenger sie a bit larger and I routed the cold side through the intake hole that's already there.

I didn't cut any of of my bumper installing the FMIC just had to trim metal on the drivers side and cut a hole by the radiator.

Good to know guys, thanks......it's just gonna be a mission to figure out how the pipping is supposed to go, like a jigsaw puzzle. Besides the IC, I think I have 5 other pieces of pipping. I know where the pipe with the BOV goes, but the other bends and pipes.....not so much......

For some reason I'm unable to find the How-To Ebay FMIC thread... That would help you out a lot. Realistically there aren't too many different ways to route the plumbing.

IDK what he has, but thatll give him a pretty good idea of what pieces/bends to use, routing, where to cut, and mounting and supporting the IC core.

Just got my SSAFC in the mail last week and installed..........WOW, that little black box is the truth! I'm glad I got that thing, no engine hesitation as promised and once I buy a wideband O2, i'll hook that up and do some real tuning. The difference in having the SSAFC and not having it is like night and day, I feel like the MSP is a whole new car! MSP86, if you haven't done it yet or considered it, GET YOU THAT BOX! On a side note, it's interesting that the actual electronics of the box are covered in harden black goop and only the serial port sticks out. I guess SS wants to protect their intellectual property and prevent people from copying their boxes.

Dude thats awesome! I AM SSSSO JEALOUS!! HAHAH Glad to hear its working out for you! Mines been pretty good lately. I got an EGR coming in the mail, then no more Check Engine and hopefully better idle/vacuum. I went the reverse route, and turned the boost wwway down hahah Im running like 6PSI hahaha My buddy sold his MSP so Im getting his SS-AFC eeeeeventually but I intend on doing full forged internals before I install it. Ill definitely keep an eye on your worklog since we got our MSP's same time hahaha
