Sport audio upgrade

I have a CX9 2011 and I'm planning to upgrade the stock audio.

My system have a very generic audio with 6 speakers (4 in doors and 2 in the front). We are planning to add a 4 channel amplifier, change the speakers (all) and extra power amplifier just for subwoofer. I purchased a Kenwood slim subwoofer but I will need to send it back to dealer because do not fit under the seats, as planned.

I'm wondering if I can install the subwoofer used in the Touring and Grand Touring in order to cover the low freq requirements of this audio upgrade.

So I have some questions and hope someone can help me with this:

1-) Do you know if the size of the speakers installed in the doors in the Sport / GT are the same as the installed in the Sport CX9? Sizes?
2-) Can you recommend where I can purchase the original Bos Subwoofer installed in the Tourism/GT models?
3-) Do you know if the original Sub is passive or active (have an internal amplifier)? How big is the speaker inside the subwoofer?
4-) Do you know if I can replace the original head unit in the sport by the one in the GT?
5-) Where is the subwoofer located in the Touring / GT models?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your response.

I replace the front door speakers by 2 new Infinity speakers. Difference is day and night, is just amazing how crisp this sounds now. Response is about 80hz to 20Khz with more clear, crisp audio. Is just incredible the difference. I will keep the head unit, I never believed this will sounds this way. Now I will only need to replace the speakers in the rear doors and add an active subwoofer. No amplifier need it at all now.

I would be glad to purchase your sub but I'm out of United States.

Have a great day.

if you add an amp on your mids and highs it will sound much much better

kenwood amps are not expensive (kac 7204 or 7205) or for a little more money get the rockford pbr 300x4 very small foot print its a little bit bigger than an iphone (yup an iphone not an ipad) and it puts out 75x4.

this was my first setup. let me kknow if you need info on subs

I'm actually very happy with the power and quality of the original head unit with the new speakers. I will check if the original speakers was 4 ohms because the new infinity are 2 ohms, this can be the reason why I feel a noticeable boost in sound volume in the CX9 with the original head unit. The volume has been increased like 20% and the quality like 300%, is just amazing how this infinity speakers works.

I will definitely switch the rear speakers for another set of similar infinity speakers models. I definitely just need to improve the low freq response (20 - 150hertz) and I would definitely needs a subwoofer.

I purchase a Kenwood slim active subwoofer but return it to the store, quality was very very bad and poor RMS. I will definitely go for a very good subwoofer (active or passive) but I don't want to waste too much space. I perhaps will use the holes in the back of the CX9 to make customs 2 x 8 inch suboowfers and install a sub mono amp mosfet under the cargo. I don't want too much power, I just want quality and cover all freqs in the audio spectrum.

Thanks for your help!!!

what i would suggest is get a sub that will work really nice on sealed 12x12x12 1 cu ft, the box will be very small and you can always take out the sub if need be.

what infinity did you get?

Thanks for your good audio tips.

The Infinity I installed in the front doors are Infinity 6829CF 300 watts max, 100 watts RMS. You can get a set at amazon at just 70usd aprox. I pay about 120usd + install, here in Mexico.

Can I purchase online ths sub are you recommending or I need to build one ? do you mean 12x12x12 inch? Do you keep the original factory sub or do you install another unit?

you can run the factory sub with the new sub check this website, any of these subs will be good, if you want a nice amp for the sub get a kenwood 9105d or a kenwood kac 8105d, make sure its d class mono block for the amp of the sub

you can get a beefy 8" if you really want small footprint
