Thoughts about wheel upgrades

So anybody done wheels on a CX-5 yet, now that it has been out for over 2 months....

I guess nobody yet, just wondering what you people think, is it really worth it to go from 19's to 20's?

Please share your taughts

If you like the way it looks then go for it. Its just personal preference. It will make the ride rougher and more prone to bent rims from pot holes.

i'm torn on the cladding, leaning towards digging it.

Same here, given it's a tall SUV. CX-5 designers used the cladding on lower body areas to visually make the CX-5 look less tall, common styling technique.

Also the black around wheel well lips is practical, often an area that takes door hits in parking lots.

So nobody has rimmed-up a CX-5 so far.....

A little motivation for the modders and non modders. A photochop I did while trying to decide on wheels.

I wonder if Rota makes those in 20's. Rota P45R's I believe.

Flavor of the month, just saying.

Certainly a good question, who wants to be the first...

I expect the wheel suppliers to show us some CX-5's with custom wheels.

I believe some Concave wheels would look amazing.

Agreed, but hard to do and not very likely when staying close to standard offsets to minimize handling degradation.

^ Nice wheel, I'm thinking of having my stock 19" wheels refinished in that color.

20x8.5 with 30ish offset imho might be perfect without doing anything crazy with the body.

Yes, it would look cool.

But messedup geometry, stress on suspension components and resulting deterioration in ride quality is more than I could tolerate. The extra unsprung weight also impacts acceleration too (not to mention handling), given 155hp stock.

Im with you Akira. 20x8.5 is whats on the CX5 Safety Vehicle. They looked great. Unfortunately the person I talked to had no information on the rims. I wish they were available to buy somewhere.

If you find a nice rim that is made for racing, I dont think weight would be much of a problem. Just make sure the total height of rim and sidewall is about the same.

A forged racing wheel is too much money for most to spend for this class of vehicle.

I think those 20's are from a CX-9, so that would be a viable solution. They are 20" x 7.5" (not 8.5").

Concave wheels on a fx35.
The cx5 would look sick with wheels like this.
