Heel and Toe

Anybody else having trouble doing a Heel and Toe while on the track?
I can never get it right, mostly because the gas pedal is too close to the center console wall. In all my previous cars, first thing I learn to do is to heel and toe. In the Mazda2 its pretty tricky.
I wear size 11 shoes.

My size 10.5 feet have trouble too. I've thought about adding a section to the gas pedal but I'm lazy lol

I don't have trouble with it? I have a weird style of heel & toe though, but I don't have trouble with it in this car.

Is there a proper method? I've only messed around with it a bit on the street, but I use the ball of edge of my foot on the brake and the pinky edge on the gas.

This is the method I've always used unless there's a very large gap between the brake and gas pedals like in my truck. I find this easier than actually using my "heel" and "toe." The only thing I had to get used to was the electronic throttle, which seems to have a small lag, requiring me to apply throttle earlier than I would usually think I would have to. Size 10.5 shoe if it matters.

I suck at it so badly that Ill over blip the throttle so by the time I let off the gas and put my foot on the brake the rpms will be about right where they need to be ;-) Then again, on an autocross course it stays in 2nd 95% of the time.

Well yeah, that's basically what I do. From people that I've talked to, they all say: "DON'T DO THAT". But I'm fine...

Now that I have a straight pipe on my car, a shifter extension and an AWR mount, heel and toe is actually quite easy now.. referencing to the throttle lag I dealt with before those mods.

The fly by wire throttle definitely feels weird for me, its not instant as a regular wired throttle which causes me to gas it even more.

I tried again today and I found that I have to position my feet on the right side of the brake pedal to feel comfortable with a heel and toe. It works, but I have to adjust to this throttle lag lol

I had the same problem so I removed the plastic covering the console at the foot wells. Also changing the pedals and asjust the tolerances from there instend of bending the stem like the hardcore peeps I know. Hope that helps, Uly

The method of left foot braking that I learned at rally school (steady on gas, feather the brake) doesn't work in the Mazda 2. The brake/throttle override ruins things.

We need to buy used EU ecu's from the early cars and they should not have the brake override on. I am going to fleabay UK and starting to shop!

My car (eu 08') has no brake override.I had some problems while braking hard at public roads where the abs was too sensitive.I found out that the h&t made things A LOT better so i started using this driving technique every time I brake hard, in the track and on the road as well.In order to make it easier I intalled an aluminioum pedal only at the gas pedal in order to have easier access on it with my heel.I'll post a pic asap. These are two videos using the h&t.

You'll need to buy another set of pedals to properly heel-toe in this car... that is if you can get the hang of the throttle override when you're on the brake. I didn't have too much issue on the track, but the pedal placement is fairly unfortunate on the 2.

I recommend these pedals: https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned) . You can get them for cheaper elsewhere, but these are some pretty damn good pedals. You'll notice that on the brake pedal, there's an extra bit on the left; that's to prevent your foot from going underneath the brake, and it's extremely helpful.

That pedal set looks great. Is there a reason you went with that specific kit (size of pedals, textured clutch and brake, etc)?
